Anyone Not Go to College

Well? I was wondering what those without a degree here do for a living. I'm just unsure of what I want to do with myself at this point.

Well, fresh out of high school I started doing freelance computer technician and small business network analyst work, and made fair money when I could find the business. My problem was the town was far too small to support me and I hadn't the foresight to expand into other towns. My whole reason for not going directly to college was so that I could qualify for the PELL and IMAP (Illinois' state version of pell) grants to not have to pay back college loans. I went into college several years after graduating, but by then my health problems caught up to me. Had that not happened, I would have come out of college with real world experience along with a full degree in several things in my field, and zero debt of any kind. As it stands, due to my health issues, I have had to live on disability until they were finally properly diagnosed. If you can stand "winging it" a few years before college, I say go for it, especially if you can get some real world experience in the field you want to go in... having your way paid by grants through college is awesome and a very smart way to go.

Just go to college and get it over with. You won't regret it.

Or you can contact Fritolays; I heard his former company is hiring.

I take online classes, but without a college degree I am currently working at a financial reporting office.

i'm currently a sys admin. It's good work, but please go to school and get your degree, you'll be better off opportunity wise with it.

by no means is a college degree a guarantee for success. BUT it is a good way to get your foot in the door.

Military or skilled labor.

Carpenter, mason, plumber, electrician, truck driver, ect. None of those require a college degree, but they do have their own form of "on the job training".

I'd advise against getting a 4 year degree in something useless from a 40k/yr school, but its really up to the individual.

I can't say I didn't go to college, however I didn't graduate. I did get enough contacts through my limited experience to get a job however and I've been doing ok with myself. So while I can say "I'm working w/out college", it isn't necessarily true, my short trip helped.

This is what I thought, I want to gain some real world experience before I dive right into college and come out with a degree in debt. Though I enjoy laboring and wouldn't mind a decent paid skilled trade. Did consider the Air Force, I could pursue something while enlisted.

I went to college but never finished my degree. I've worked in tech support for the past 7 years.

I'm sure other opportunities would have become available had I achieved my bachelor's...but I'm not unhappy with my choices.

I have considered going back to college, but with my experience I'd likely be better off taking specialized training courses instead.

Not everyone needs a degree...it depends on how much you want to make of yourself.

My old roommate went into the Army and straight to Iraq out of high school (Desert Storm), now works as a regional manager for a contractor for Verizon and AT&T. (Makes over 6 figures, almost triple his wife who has a degree)

My last ex works as a regional manager for a company that manages apartment communities, and makes $120K after bonuses a year. (Was a VP at her previous company)

A company I worked for out of college - the CEO never went to college, was in the Army after college, and is a great motivational speaker and has written over 40 books.

Then I know others who are fine never having gone to college and don't mind skating by in life who just don't give a sh!t.

Like others said - a degree doesn't mean or guarantee anything, but you have to ask yourself what you really want to do/make of yourself in the long run.

I believe there are generally two major roads in life.

1. College
2. Trade Work (working for low wage until you build yourself up)

Neither guarantees success. However, going to college has a significantly higher success then any other methods. There is a direct path that is not convoluted. If you do the appropriate things and take the appropriate courses you will get a degree which will open the doors to employers. You start out significantly more then those without a degree and you stand out of the crowd.

If you choose option 2, not going to college and fighting like hell to get a job without a degree expect to fight. There's also strong possibility you will not get what you want in life. There is no direct path in this case.

Just go to the DLLR website and look up Education v.s. Income statistics. It's obvious hands down....

Those persons are statistical outliners and don't represent the averages. If it was that EASY then no one would go to college...

Go to college, do well, get an internship = real world experience depending on your field. I got a software engineering internship where I actually programmed professionally (Computer Engineering Major).

Fuck that. Double major FTW!!! Besides, college is awesome. I'm only 1/3 of the way through (Double major = 6 year degree). One of the best times of my life.

if you're unsure whether college is right for you, you can begin by taking a few courses at a community college to see if you're ready to get back in the habit of school. In fact, I'd probably recommend completing all of your general ed classes at a CC and transfer them to a uni later on.....wish I had done that, would've saved a ton of money. good luck!

Also, Bill Gates doesn't have a college degree and is a billionaire. Therefore, all people who don't go to college will become billionaires.

Software Developer. I spent several years in a help center, then in a second level support position, then in a central production support position before I made it here. Probably would have been easier and quicker to just get the degree, but I like doing things the hard way.

I have a 2 year degree that is completely unrelated to my job as Network Admin. This is the first position I've had, I make roughly 42k. College isn't bad though dude. If you really want to get started then take a few classes and work full time. I plan on taking 2 or 3 as I'm working to head towards my degree. Its not rough, don't think of it as a burden.

Welcome to Burger Shot, where the burgers are bleedin' tasty.

But really, go to college somewhere. You can figure out what you want to do after you get there even. Friend of mine waited like 2 years to declare a major at the last minute.
