I have this old beaten up Logitech Mx518 I use, nice mouse very sensitive and fits my hand perfectly. Well I decided to get a different mouse for my 2nd pc I have at home and I was looking at the G9 but I didn't want to pay that much for one. But I got a good deal on a Razer DeathAdder so I decided to give it a shot. Well it came in, looks nice, I like the blue glow to the scroll wheel and logo but for the life of me can't get used to it, heres what I dislike.

1. Software doesn't allow me to custom change sensitivity in incriments. I prefer to use 1100 dpi in most of my games but this mouse will only let you pick 800 or 1800 (or something like that can't remember off hand) but I couldn't find where you could customize a specific dpi like on my Logitech

2. It's got a really loud clicking sound compared to other mice I have used

3. The area where your thumb rests just feels really weird it being glossy and the buttons aren't positioned right for easy access.

I'm just wondering if I ordered the wrong Razer and should have gotten a different one more specific to what I like. Anyone know if theres a solution to problem 1?

For best mouse performance you really shouldn't use anything but a mouse's highest available dpi setting (Razer or otherwise). Use either the mouse drivers sensitivity adjustment or in game cursor speed adjustment to raise or lower mouse speed to suit your preference.

I agree with you that they do seem to be very loud.

However, I have used a G5 a Razor Diamond Back and Razor Death Adder and the thumb button and area is very different on each mouse. The Death adder thumb buttons are nice and big and give a good click, better than even the G5!

I have to say the Death Adder is my favorite mouse with the G5 being a very close second place. I have yet to get a good chance to play around with the logitech G9 but I will as soon as I can.

The Razer buttons are a lot louder, but I think they also last a little longer too... don't quote me on that though.

That's not always true, as long as you're using a non software (driver) interpolated 'dpi' then you should be fine. That being said, 1100DPI is certainly not a hardware setting for a G5.

General rule of thumb is use a hardware dpi and keep software sensitivity 1:1 with the hardware by not messing with driver or windows sensitivity (for Razer's driver specific sensitivity it would be 10, and for windows in the exact middle under 'pointer speed').

The last step is to change in-game mouse sensitivity to achieve the desired setup.

Yeah true, I still don't totally like the way it feels. Maybe I'm just too much into logitechs now.
This is going to be true for just about anything. You've trained yourself on logitech and thus its sort of hardwired into you, using it has become 2nd nature. Introduce something new, and even if it is better, it might not be better for you (at least not right away).

You really might need to really give it some time to retrain yourself how to use the new mouse before you see any potential improvement.

I have a razer lachesis since i got bored one day and wanted a high dpi mouse (not the first time I didn't research a product). Previously had a MS intelli mouse explorer 3.0. The lachesis is really weird to get used to since it is an ambidextrous mouse and I was used to right handed mice.

After getting used to it and after razer made the latest patch, this thing is amazing!
500dpi up to 4,000 dpi!
9 programmable buttons (switching dpi when i Snipe is awesome)

Ill never go back to microsoft.

I just got one of these. Had a MX-700 wireless for years and it was starting to show its age. I was a bit leary of going back to a corded mouse but couldn't find a rechargeable wireless locally (and the Revolution is not really a good gaming mouse). Anyway, this thing is great. I have func mousepad that has a wire holder at the top and the wire coming out of the g5 is thin and very pliable. So it doesn't feel like the old corded mouses I used to hate. And the sensitivity and performance is so much better than the MX-700.

I have a Habu. It's my third one. The other two died within six months of purchase, but were replaced free by MicroSoft. It's a great mouse but quality control is shit. My current one double clicks sometimes when I single click. I won't be buying any more Razer products in the future.

I have larger hands and all the Razor mice I've ever tried have always been awkward feeling. G5 all the way.

The Habu was more of a mix between Razer lending Microsoft their sensor and Microsoft fucking up the rest on their own accord.
The strict Razer mice are great, I haven't had a problem with my Diamondback 3g and I've had it for at least 6 months.

Yeah, I love the intellimouse body, it fits my hands well. I think Microsoft knows they fucked it up because they've sent me two new mice without too much questioning, and I didn't have to send my old ones in. My next mouse will be a G5 I think.

A nifty trick for shopping for mice: Best Buy has a 30-day no questions refund policy on their mice, which means you can take $70 and buy a mouse, use it for a few weeks, take it back, get a different one, use it for a few weeks, take it back etc. etc.

That works, or I use my local PC shops for testing because they have new games out for testing with new mice and such.

And I won't disagree with you that the G5 is a great mouse, it's just that I don't fell the need for another laser mouse. The infrared sensor in the DeathAdder works great, and has 1800dpi without the limitation of usable surfaces.

my copperhead feels much different than my logitech g7 or mx revolution, but the logi's are too heavy for gaming.

i use the logitechs for general desktop usage and the razer for fast-paced FPS gaming. the rubber sides and buttons on the copperhead help with slippery hands and i never lose grip

What are some good mice for people that like to use their fingers while gaming?

I've been using a Razer Copperhead for 2 years now, never had an issue with it, buttons aren't spongy, scroll wheel button isn't spongy, so no complaints here. It's definitely a mouse for people who use the finger method (yes, I finger my mouse, I'll say it before someone else does) or have really small hands. I have rather large hands so I tend to finger all the mice I use, and the lower profile of the Copperhead is well suited for it. I'll go clean up now, I feel dirty.
