Anyone made their own "Bump Key"?

I tried making my own bump key...It came out better than i thought but it still looks pretty bad. I can't get it to work. Doesn't get stuck in any locks anyways, that's always a good sign. Here's a crappy pic of what it looks like: My Bump Key

Guess it would be hard to tell me what's wrong with it based on that pic :/ - I might try and get a better pic of it later with my digital camera.

Anyone been successful at making one? It took a whole lot of filing but I'm somewhat satisfied with the end result, it'd be nice if it would work though. Then again, I haven't tested it much, and i don't know if I'm doing the whole process correctly. Or maybe i need to file it some more. If i can't get it to work i'll probably just buy one somewhere, or have one made if possible. I'm not planning to do any robberies by the way, not planning to do anything bad at all. In fact, the reason i'm making one is pretty lame :p

Here's some Video info if you don't know what the hell i'm talking about:

Yea, I have a whole set of bump keys. I've gotten into lots of places. It takes practice, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be a master theif.

Looks like everyone's gonna need one to get into OT with all those padlocks.

The lock industry follows suit with the software industry - and now someone found the obscure security flaw. Time for a patch?:)

Pfft I bought them on ebay. I think there is something I need to do to complete it because they don't work. Every auction has this:

tips and shoulders are not modified

Do I need to complete the filing?

yes, the tip and shoulder have to be filed slightly before it'll work.

i'm guessing this is some guy at home depot who mills a stack of blanks while he is not helping customers

I would be careful with this.

If you ran across a cop with the bump key + a custom bumper (not just a screwdriver), you could get charged with possesion of burglar's tools.

Curiosity and you never know when you could use one. (ie locking your keys inside...)

Is this head on my bump key too big? I think i'll try filing it down since it's still not working.

I had experience with one of these in high school. Remember those locks that everyone had on their lockers? About every 20th key was almost a natural bump key for that lock. There were about 10 people opening all the lockers.

This method of making a universal though is pretty cool.

Only one problem, I called up a medeco dealer and they run $250 per lock. Thats quite a lot of dough for 5 of 6 locks I need.

Anything below $100 a lock? There was a video where some of those bump guys tested a bunch of locks and found a $50 european lock that was bump proof.

It doesn't even have to be a special uber strong lock with restricted keys.

The reason this bumping thing is so scary, is that theres no proof if someone uses it on your house and robs you. The insurance companies will tell you you are trying to defraud them because there was no evidence of breakin. So, I want a lock that will show evidence of breakin, even if its not particular strong, I just want a bump proof one.

Break something yourself and twist the rules a bit?

As "The Law" seemingly protects the criminal more each day, law abiding citizens will become lawbreakers themselves. Scary world we live in. :Q

And when found out, get thrown in jail yourself rather than just out the money from the robbery. No thanks, I dont think a $10,000 breakin is worth jail time.

I'd rather spend the few hundred on a set of bump proof locks.

BTW, there's a similar situation for all the cars that have the electronic chips in them. Insurance companies act as if they are invulnerable, and if your car is stolen, often they wont accept your stolen car report. The chips aren't invulnerable, and often there are workarounds as well.

So, any suggestions for bump proof locks?
