Came out today. Wondering if anyone bought it, and what htey think of it?

Im familiar iwth the whole anti tiberian sun thing, ive been with westwood since DUNE1, and then their first true RTS, Dune 2. I'd like to keep this about Red Alert 2 if possible :)

So, anyone got RA2? What do they think?

Hit or miss?

I'm sure it'll suck given the low-key release. It still might sell well with the Deer Hunter crowd, however.

Westwood's new Dune game looks to be a bit better. Hopefully, they'll release something with innovation and not another RTS. The world needs not another generic RTS. It really doesn't. Even the Deer Hunter crowd has played a few too many by now.

bigben,

Indeed I have. A simpler interface, cheesier graphics, a dated engine being reused one too many times, low-key introduction, a "fast past" design (I read that as an arcade game, not a RTS game)...all add it to this title sucking in my view.

It's a pity they can't come out with something innovative anymore, their games are otherwise well balanced. Dune 2 was actually the reason I got a pc in the first place.

Dune2, one of three games that changed computer gaming, others are Civ1 and Wolf3D.

Cant wait for Dune3 ;) going to be out next year.

OK I bet I will get a whipping for this one. Personally I wish they had a demo for the game. I don't want to spend my hard earned cash on another sh*tty game. ALready did that with Tiberium Sun. I am currently looking for a rip of the game but I have yet to find one. If the game is good, I will lay the hard cash down for the game because I want to play it online.

Red Alert was my favorite RTS game. After that I've become less and less impressed with them. I thought that Tiberian Sun was decent...but truly I have no intention of spending any money buying another RTS game, quite possibly ever again. To say that they are an uninspired copy of all the ones before them is an understatement. I can play first person shooters until the cows come home, but RTS has just gotten criminally boring.

I heard that if you d/l a warez copy or even copy one of your friend's cds that the game won't even function. That sucks!! :|

JELLY - I suppose the game would suck if all you did was single player or online against people you don't know, but when you have the chance to whup your best friends at LAN parties by running up in their base with a nuclear bomb strapped to a truck...well, that's tight.

Yeah i saw the ads in PC GAMER and it looked pretty cool but it definately needed a big hype key release. If not, the only people who are gonna play it are loyal fans which is not enough. A game needs to also attract new fans as well.

It's really fun. The only thing I dislike is the fact that you are forced to use Westwood Online to play on the net. If you're looking for something revolutionary .. this isn't it. The graphics are only slightly improved and it's still the same "get cash, build stuff, attack" deal, but it's fun as hell at the same time :)

Oh ya, if you get the warez copy .. you won't be able to play online and in some missions your troops die instantly (frustration is a nice way to combat piracy eh?).
