Anyone lives from NY, NJ, or PA who works in...
IT field? I want to work in IT in NJ, NY, or PA. What is the name of company do u work for? What kind of position are you in IT? Good salary?

I am from Miami, Florida and might move back to NJ as soon as the house is sold. I have A.S. degree in Computer Network Engineer with an A+ and Network+ certifications. I am working on getting a MCSE and MCSA. I do work, which is an assembley techician, for Alienware. I make $25k a year. My brother , as same profession as I, works for bank in Peterson, NJ and makes $32k a year but I don't want to work with him if his boss, who happens to be my brother's best friend, hires me.

P.S. anyone from Florida and do work in IT, post here then.

Fresh out of college, after getting my BS in Information Systems, in PA I was getting offers of 40K. 50K if you were willing to be an independent contractor.

That's why I moved to DC - 65K with a small defense contractor :) Of course, real estate is > 50% more expensive down here, too. :(

Awesome, That's what I am expecting to have a better job, making at least 40k a year. Just graduated from college and I only work for Alienware for 10 months now. I know some small or big companies prefer to hire an experienced and skilled IT guys. The problem is How do I gain an experience without a job or how do I get a job without an expereicne?

I graduated with a BS in computer science and had a hard time finding a real job. Took me two years to find a real job, and the pay's good but nothing crazy. Raises come quick though from what I hear.

I few of my friends (computer engineers mostly) had a hard time finding jobs as well, and honestly they're smarter than me so I was surprised.

Whatever you do do NOT work in a callcenter. I worked in two high volume helpdesk/call centers (for a total of 13 months) and honestly i'm still trying to recover from burnout. I got sucked in due to promises of quick lateral moves for qualified people, and while my last job was likely going to promote me I was offered the perfect job and took it.

PS - i'm in NJ.

I will not be working as helpdesk/call center or dept because I am deaf. :) This week, I am planning to sign up Monster.com. I wonder is it good?

stay away from central PA. there is pretty much nothing unless you know 20 different web programming languages. that seems to be all the IT jobs available here.

with experience on your resume, you should be making at minimum $40k in this area... but getting in would be the problem since it's already flooded.

You should have no problem making over $50K+ a year doing IT support work in the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area IF you find the right company to work for. The housing is expensive around here, though, so don't expect to be able to buy a three bedroom house with that salary.

Man, how are you going to buy a $300k starter home if you're making $32k a year? That might fly in South Jersey, but anywhere in the corridor between NYC and Philadelphia you're going to be living paycheck to paycheck. You should be able to do better than that.

none of your family and friends work in IT or work for corporations that have IT Staff, or otherwise could give you a feel for the rates up here for IT?
