On my 63-day roadtrip, that place was THE most remote town of all. The town was cutesy but I can't imagine living there...

I know there are FARRR more rural/remote towns than Bisbee, but visiting this town felt so strange because it does tries to be a bigger town with shops & restaurants. But pretty much that is it.

Anyone live near it? What do you do all day? A cute beautiful town and surreal.

Bisbee is awesome! We're probably heading over there this weekend to visit some friends. Did you hike the staircases?

Bisbee used to be much bigger until the mine closed.

I don't live anywhere near Bisbee, but I've been there. The mine tour was interesting.I thought that Tombstone was much more strange.

That shack sold for $110K? Why?
Californians.

Also, Bisbee had a building moratorium slapped on it by EPA and the State until they replaced their ancient sewer system. As a result, demand for houses far outstripped supply as old shacks fell down and new houses couldn't be built. The moratorium has been lifted but building there is not easy. Most lots have no road access and to build you have to haul materials up or down the staircases that tie the town together.

Bisbee has a unique micro-climate that is much more moderate than the surrounding desert. This draws people there as much as the scenery.
