Or near there? I might be taking a new job out there, and want to know what it is like, cost of living, utility costs, things of that nature.

I live in the area. What part of town are you moving to? Near downtown or North Aurora? If so, its complete trash and overrun with illegals. Housing there is cheap(I would guess, since its a shithole).

South Aurora off/near 34 between Oswego/Naperville area? Nice area, a lot more expensive. In the good area, rent will be at least $600 a month for a decent place + utilities, and thats low end. Gas is $3.19 when I drove home today. Property taxes are high.

Any other questions?

*edit*

There is a lot to do out in this area. Oswego off 34 has a LOT of resturants and businesses. Also, route 59 is loaded with just about everything you could want. Downtown Naperville is always hopping, lots of great bars.

*edit again*

Make sure you pick a good spot to live. If you pick the wrong area in Aurora you will end up in a Latin King gang zone. Just dont move anywhere near the downtown area or anywhere north of it. Just think Oswego/South Aurora/Naperville. Good areas.

That is where i am currently looking (Oswego, S Aurora, Naperville). My cousin lives in Naperville, so I will try to stay there for a week or two while I look for a place. If I get the job, it will actually be a promotion within the same company, so a fairly contracted timetable.

I will be renting not owning, and gas here was I think $3.05 when I filled up today.

What about electric/natural gas? My last electric bill (rowhome with 2 people, 3 desktops, LCD TV, full size fridge, gas heat/stove) was around $90-100, but it got up to $200 in the summer with 3 window units.

My first thought too!

Stu: no clue buddy. Do you get winters where you are at now?

Central PA right now, so winter does exist. Gets reasonably cold (20s), but snow is hit or miss.

1200 SF townhome, gas stove, fridge, LCD TV, yadda yadda. Me and my GF living here.

Our Nicor gas bill was much higher than normal this last month. It was $102. It was $38 last month.

Com Ed was $69 last month, $48 in the previous month.

Well that sounds good, I have a desktop and a laptop, no TV (but a bitchin TV stand), and a PS3. Not much in the way of power consumption.

Naperville is really nice, but expensive.

Says the man in Hong Kong, how can I possibly believe you? 😵

That is the general consensus that I am getting. I will have to take a look at my budget, see if I can swing it, otherwise it is one of those other places that nick mentioned.

I lived there for almost 20 years but I haven't lived there for ten years now so I don't have any insight on the current living situations there. I don't know if I would want to live there now. The town just exploded since the early 80's and the traffic and congestion can be a real trial. Most people I knew moved to the outskirts when they went back to Naperville. But I don't know anyone out by Aurora way myself. I seem to recall most of them going in the opposite direction out towards Danada, Warrenville or Lisle.

Well, for traffic... I am used to that. I live in Central PA, at the intersection of 81 and 76. I go to DC a couple of times a year as well, so I can handle traffic.

My left leg might hate me though, darn me and my love of stick shift.

Thanks for the info though, this is all good to have.

As long as you look in the right areas, whatever is in Naperville can be had for cheaper outside of it. The right areas of Bolingbrook, Oswego and Aurora all offer similar living as most of naperville, but because they don't carry the name, they generally go for cheaper.
