I've gotten into techno lately (great to listen to while gaming :) ) and so far I really like the 'band' Tune Up! and listening to some Initial D every once in a while.

Any other good ones you all know of?

I think Darude's first album, Before the Storm, is pretty good trance. That's the one that has the ubiquitous Sandstorm on it.

Also, Justice is good for noise-house.

Avalanches are okay, if you want to count them.

I second Squarepusher and Richard D. James, who mostly records under the name Aphex Twin.

BT is great. Aura is pretty good too (though too trance-y for me).

I hate being the genre-elitist, but that song isn't techno at all.

It's hardstyle...or close enough (Which even a trance-lover like myself enjoys once n awhile :D)

If you search youtube for hardstyle, you'll find tons of similar tunage.

Most electronica scenesters i know start out listening to that kinda music, & then delve more into stuff like trance or electro or house, but any good raver will appreciate that kinda tunage even still :)

Not techno.
Carl Cox, that's techno. (If you need an example)

They have electronic elements to their music, but i wouldn't even consider them electronica.

I'd classify carl cox as hard house personally, but I haven't listened to him in like 4 years

I find real 'techno' primarily to be focused on electronic music created around 88-96ish. After that, it spawned a TON of branches, trance, house, jungle, etc. But real down to earth techno being shit from that earlier period. Hell I'd consider early 'prodigy' to be very techno-ish.

Underworld not so much 'cuz they don't have that 'edge' i usually associate with techno, but i do enjoy their music quite a bit.

Depends on the kind of techno you like. I like hardstyle a lot.

BUT I love Daft Punk <3, Scooter, Basshunter, umm so many more I can't think of right now

I've always wondered what techno would sound like played on actual instruments. Any techno bands like that?

I actually don't really like Carl Cox at all, but he's the easy example i know of as techno.

Hard house (which apparently now is taboo...everyone wants to call it hard dance for some dumb reason ) would be Lisa Lashes, Anne Savage, that kinda music. (And at their shows, it makes me flail like a wild animal :D)

The irony of Eminem's "Nobody listens to techno" is largely true; the techno genre is very small these days.

But trance/house & their sub genres are huge of course.

Anyway, i can't believe i'm arguing damn genres.

On the electronica boards i post on, every fourth thread has some stupid genres argument in it...

Electronic music is awesome; let's just say that :p

I've always found techno to be the term people who have no idea about electronic music call ANY electronic music.

As a previous poster said, I consider true techno to almost be a thing of the past. When I think techno, I think of tracks from the early to mid 90's.

What genre are Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada and The Chemical Brothers? It's what comes to mind when I think 'techno' and I know I'm probably wrong.
