Anyone liking NFS:Rivals?

I got this Tuesday being a little hesitant knowing that the game is 30FPS locked..kinda disappointing, but I started out playinh Pole Position so whatever, I'll deal...

The Multiplayer in this game is so much fun! I'm really enjoying it and getting into it more than any game I've bought lately. I've been trying to split time between racers and cops so that I can maintain a balanced feel to the game.

I can see spending more time playing this then I have Battlefield 4 so far. For some reason I just cant seem to get into this one.

Anyhow, if anyone would like to add me to Origin my ID is ksheets1975.

Well any game with fast and nice looking dream cars is my thing. I quite like it alot decent level of challenge as well as a very unique take on multiplayer which makes it quite enjoyable.

I'm waiting until it's a month old so I can use a 15% off coupon from Origin. 😀

Hopefully by then they'll have a fix for the fps. Apart from that, I do read that the multiplayer is very fun.

Yes it is quite fun. I wanted to hold off on purchasing it for full price because i know it was going to drop in price soon but i couldn't resist.

It is locked to 30fps, and has no steering wheel support.

A racing game without racing wheel support, who at EA was the brains behind that idea, and why on earth would you lock it at 30fps on PC?

Do not buy this game, at least until they patch it. Just shows that PC Gamers are at the back of their minds as usual.

Unfotunatley, it appears that the framerate is locked to 30 permanently. There have been attempts to unlock the framerate but it apparently also "speeds" up the game at the same time, so the framerate is tied to the speed of the game.

I also have to agree about the steering wheel support not being there- I tried my ps3 wheel, but no go.

Other than that, I'm having a great time unlocking cars and tech, it's quite a rush playing a racer and trying to get away from heat so that you dont lose all your racing points 🙂

Garbage game, no reason for the 30 fps lock to exist period. Do not buy IMO. The total biscuit youtube video sums it up nicely.

The game will never be patched. It's hard-coded in such a way that the gameplay logic is completely tied to the frame timer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this hasn't been an acceptable standard in PC gaming for decades now. Graphics renderer should always update independently on a separate thread from the actual gameplay.

The developers of NFS Rivals apparently still live in the 80's. They'd have to do a major re-write of the game in order to make it run at a decent FPS. EA probably won't allow them to spend any resources doing that.

It's a shame too, because I really wanted to get this game.

Yea this is the first game where the fps is quite low and im still enjoying it. Normally i would complain when my fps drops below a certain amount but not for this because to me it still plays quite smoothly. And yea the racer campaign gets quite tedious and i have lost quite s lot of money to those suicidal cops. Just need to patch a few annoying bugs over time and it will be more than good.

Just got the game since it was on sale. Well, I should've listened to you guys. :whiste:

This is my first NFS game since Underground 10 years ago. It's still fun but the game could've been much better.

I'm only level 14 but other than the 30 fps lock, here are my gripes so far:

-No mouse support
-Not all joypads work, seems like only the 360 controller does
-Host migration <-- wow what a PITA

Yes I would like some explanation on this as well. Why is this game so shittily coded? Is there some particular whiz-bang feature it has that requires them to lock the timing of the game @ 30fps like this?

^ This sums everything up. A high-speed racing game - Locked to 30fps. With no steering wheel support. What next, a PC Arena FPS that doesn't work with a mouse?... Half the reason PC gaming is in the state it's in is some people being over-tolerant of hyper-consolized cr*p they just keep on buying instead of sending a much-needed message. There's a very good reason why the game has a user rating of just 29% of Metacritic. And that includes the usual suspicious 10/10 gushing shill reviews...

I've been playing this for a couple weeks now and my view is generally positive.
People like to compare it to Burnout Paradise (my personal favorite) but I don't see it.
The game is VERY impressive graphically when there aren't the occasional bugs like a weird red shading or textures not loading correctly or fast enough. There are many different environments, from snowy mountains to deserts to construction zones and they all look really amazing. The weather effects are also great, the droplets from a nearby waterfall while passing by it really impressed me. Rain, snow, leaves, birds, planes flying overhead, all sorts of things add to the style and environment.
The cars are perfectly detailed and once you get into the more high powered ones it's way more fun to play. The driver actually does what you're doing, whether it's turning the wheel or shifting gears.
The "weapons" are just fun. Chasing a racer in the cop car, hitting them with the "force field" then using the bumper ram to send them flying is fulfilling. As a racer, using the shockwave while surrounded by cops is nice as it gives you an opportunity to get away .
They use the gas station style repair/recharge like Burnout Paradise, and I like that. (The repair shop/gas stations are combined now.)
The bad stuff:
The "story". Horrible. Just terrible. I don't want nor need a story in a racing game. The "story" is too serious for my taste. (I disliked the announcer in Burnout Paradise, it was unnecessary as well and one of my only gripes about the game.)
I've dropped through the world floor at times, usually when going very fast and landing from a jump. Basically bottoming out and clipping through the ground.
Sometimes when you wreck it will put you back and you can't move. It has something to do with the road loading as I'm sitting in dirt, then the road loads, I drop on it, then start going again. In times events this can be frustrating. Also when you wreck it will put you facing the way you were instead of back on course like most games.
Loading screens. Even on my SSD, it takes a LONG time to start racing or transitioning to and from the hideouts/bases. Even the menus are a chore. If you want to go from a level 1 pursuit tech, you have to upgrade one by one, scrolling through all of the tech available again and again.
Once the "story" is over, the desire to play drops a lot. I guess I could complete more speedlists and get different "livery", but when all you really see is the back of your car 99% of the time, why bother?
I'm wrecked more times as a cop by other cops. I've started taking them out as well as the racers. 🙂

I've played through the racer "story" and halfway or more through the cop "story", and I'll add more if I think of anything else.

It won't be patched either. As others have stated, the issue is the way it's hard-coded. It's like some of those old badly written MS-DOS games where buying a 2x faster CPU ran the game twice as fast...
