anyone like tic tacs

Meh. If you're looking for an inexpensive 9mm pistol, I recommend CZ or a Springfield XD. Also, keep in mind that resale on quality guns is very good, and you will lose the money you save versus, say, a Glock or Sig when it comes time to resell your gun.

You can get a new Springfield XD for not much more. Good gun.

Of course...if you are buying one of those special no serial number ones....go for it.

If you're talking about 357sig, it's expensive to shoot. If this is your first handgun (and you're not buying something in a real caliber like .45), you might as well get 9mm since it's the cheapest among the three.

Turned 21 not to long ago and I know this seems 'video-gamish', but I kind of wanted a desert eagle and some kind of 9mm with a silencer.

As for why I chose those, especially with the silencer, I have no idea.
I do know that the 9mm is ideal and the ammo is cheap(?)
As for the Desert E, I don't know, but I think it would be fun to go out somewhere in a field and obliterate small targets at free throw range 😉

Any recommendations? Only concealed weapons.........My friend gave me an AK! 🙂

First of all:

For the cost of owning a surpressed weapon, you could easily buy two nice handguns. I don't know the exact requirements, but I'm pretty sure you need a $300 tax stamp just to buy the silencer - then of course you have to buy the silencer after that.

Second of all, the Desert Eagle is a horrible, horrible handgun. It jams if you limp-wrist it (which you probably will if you don't fire handguns very often), is heavy, and ammunition is expensive. It's probably the worst choice for a handgun ever. I can't see any reason to own one, because most gun owners "in the know" will think you just wasted money buying it. I guess you could impress idiots and people who's only firearms experience comes from video games though.

As for "9mm is ideal" - the advantages include low price and recoil, plus you can get fairly high capacity magazines. If you're buying one for personal protection, I personally think there's better calibers out there.

So here's what I'd reccomend to a first-time handgun owner.

First of all, take a firearms safety course.

Secondly, go to a range that rents guns and try a few to see what you like.

9mm or .40 caliber: Springfield XD.

45ACP: Springfield Full-Sized or Champion 1911.

Generally a few dollars more a box at retail, less when bought wholesale (depending on manufacturer and type).

They make a fine wheelgun but please stay away from the S&W autoloaders.

Used CZ, Tanfoglio(CZ clone sold under the EEA Witness name) or Ruger for your price range.

Wal-mart sells 100 rounds of 9mm for $10.96, and 100 rounds of .40 for 16.96, if I remember correctly. FMJ rounds.

Holy effing crap. Walmart selling ammunition too? I couldn't believe it when I first heard they sold computers. Now ammunition? What's next, cars and planes? "Buy your gyrocopter at Walmart!"

a 9mm would stop someone robbing/trying to kill me right???

First off, its 200 bucks for the ATF fees to own a silencer/full auto. Secondly, it depends on states. Some states prohibit the ownership of various Class 3 items (Suppresors, full auto, DD) so check state laws first.

I wouldnt do a S&W autoloader unless it was the 1911, which is very, very cherry IMO. There wheel guns are nice though.

Cost of ammo depends. 9mm/45 is cheap because you can get surplus. Which makes it really cheap. If your interested in reloading ammo prices become a moot point as reloading sufficiently cuts down the cost of shooting.

If you really want to check prices look at http://midwayusa.com/ and compare prices.
9mm Gold dots runs around 12 bucks for a box of 20
.40 is around 15 for a box of 20.

As for a Desert Eagle, theres MUCH better firearms for the money. The only one I want is the .44 Magnum but they no longer make it, and .44 doesnt run well in auto loaders anyways.......

Any bullet will stop an intruder. However, the larger the caliber, the bigger the mess. A powerful enough gun will not only enter the intruder's body, but exit it and make a mess on the wall, possibly even going through the wall and into your neighbor's house (if you have a .50 action express or something like that.)

I would recommend a 9mm as a first handgun if you want a decent kick and cheap ammo.
Here is my list:
CZ 75
XD-9 (which is just like a glock but with more safety features)

I own a glock 17 but it's not a beginner gun.

Well It'll also depends on the type of ammo, as hollowpoint 9mm rounds do a lot more damage than a .40, IIRC. I remeber seeing seeing a video where someone shot a watermelon with a 45 and 9mm hollow tips and the 45 blew the back out but the hollows shreded the thing. I could have this backwards though, correct me if I'm wrong.

The Winchester Ranger 127-grain +P+ is about as good as it gets for factory 9mm ammunition (provided your pistol can take the pressure and you can locate the ammo).
