Something else not mentioned is the placement of the power connectors. If they're on the end of the card instead of the top you're going to need a few cm more of space.

Fortunately with 580, it's on the top.
I don't think they will make it at the end of the card of this length, but you never know.
Longer cards are coming (69x0?)...

good point, but
no hign-end card has power connector on the end, 99% are on the top of the cards

I know! I have the Azza Solano, which is huge, and after looking what this little guy can do, I am even tempted to consider it for my next build. Plus it ships with USB 3.0 and has a fan controller.

Look at this, it can easily fit 2x GTX460s with Core i7 under Corsair H50:

More pics please! Do you think you could budge a 9.5" GTX470 in there with that lower hard drive bay installed? Oh yeah how well does air flow past the hard drives on to the video cards/ motherboard? I have some Scythe Slipstream 1900rpm 120MM fans that flow 110CFM. Hopefully they will be sufficient to provide fresh cooler air to the Graphics Card Intake Fan... I'm going to order the Lian Li PC v-354 this week. I wanna be able to install 7 hard drives and use 2 GTX 470s In SLI...
