Everything google's getting me are sites that want to call me and harass me and send me shit. I just want the damn prices. The one that simply gives me models to choose from, sizes, and prices just might be blessed enough to get my business.

can anyone help? I'm considering buying land instead of a house and building a metal building to work from. Later as funds allow... build the house. IMHO, land seems to be a pretty good long term investment in the Dallas area.

Besides....I like land :eases back in rocking chair with mint julep:

i have researched this a little bit in the past and have determined it is, in almost every case, cheaper to erect a stick built pole frame building. I also don't see where a steel building is going to be that much easier.

One that advertises on the radio here is General Steel. The commercials claim it's much cheaper than stick-built, but who knows.

Damn. It's starting to look like I need to budget in a torch and welder and just build it myself. Sounds like it'll be fun if this is indeed the path I choose.

How big of a building are you talking about here?

Lumber is REALLY cheap these days. You could pour a good 6" concrete slab and lay some cinderblock for pretty cheap...then frame the sides up with 2X4s and throw on a metal roof.... You'd be able to build the whole thing by yourself and it'll probably still be cheaper than what those companies will sell you unless you're wanting a warehouse.

i'd estimate on $1.5/lb of steel and whatever it costs for joists to frame your floors. then you'd need to pay an engineer to survey your land, take borings, tell u your foundation capacity - then u'd hire another engineer to design and sign/seal the plans for your house.
