Pink Cases? I would want Black and Pink, but I know they don't sell that anywhere cause they just don't like us girl gamers. But anyways, if you don't know any particular model, know any good sites where I can make a custom case or build a custom case. :) All help is greatly appreciated :)

Ha! Lousy cheater :p.

That DIY custom case project looked pretty impressive though, I have to admit. Not really my style (my personal X-QPack rig is nearly 100% black, inside and out :cool:), but still nicely done. I haven't read the thread through to the end, but I'm sure the fiance loved it.

Okey, first off, you get the case to fit your hardware, and not the other way around.

Depending on the components that you have in your system, there is a balance between noise, heat, and space. When you know the perfect fit for your system, then you pick on the case.

The QPAK Absolutely sucks as a gaming case. The reason is its very small, cramped, and extremely hard to keep cool in medium temp enviorments. Ive built one for my friend whose a girl, and i ended up watercooling it because it couldnt keep up with the overclock the chip could dish out. Im telling you, SFF's are a pain in the butt if its your first build.


Care to list your hardware before we go off giving you recomendations. The last thing i would hate to see is you having a 8800GTX and us recomending you a case that WONT fit that card.

You would want to watercool it...even if it didn't require it ;). As far as a GTX not fitting, last time I checked, the 8800 GTX was not 14 inches long. (The Ultra, on the other hand, might be problematic because of the top bulge.) I also don't see the cooling issues you were describing.

And FWIW, the QPack was the first case I ever used in a build.

I believe NZXT will be coming out with a new SFF cube case sometime soon that has two additional 120mm side fans, so that should really take care of any cooling concerns. Not sure if it comes in pink...if not, some spray paint might be in order.

I give you a lot of props on a SFF being your first DYO. The cabling must of been a nightmare and it must of took a lot of time and paitence. :T I think i came out with a lot of war injurys when building the QPACK for the first time. Hands are kinda big. :T

heh... well i was more in talking about not fitting as everything. The PSU is limited due to its size and location, the case is a MATX case, so you need a MATX board, Which gives you only a few to select from, the best being from ASUS.

The G80 dumps a lot of heat into the case even if it exhausts outwards. The CPU sink is limited since you know the QPACK.

And no my friend was frighten sick of water when i dropped it on. :p She couldnt stop checking for leaks for about a month when i gave it to her.

The reason i said watch out is because the Qpac is selective on parts. The microfly id say is a better case then the Qpack at its same class.

Thats why i wanted to know what hardware your running in your system. Also if your adding a quadcore with a G80, your going to have issues keeping that thing cool. I had problems in my friends E6600 + 7950GT. When i oc'd the cards to 680mhz core, and the cpu to 3.6ghz, that sucker got HOT off the zalman 8500?? the one thats flat with heat pipes.

When she saw the performance difference from 3.6ghz, water.. vs 3.0ghz air.... she decided to keep the water. :p

Amber your also aware the stock PSU that comes with the QPACK is very crappy in quality, and also VERY LOUD. :X

this one looks very nice. Also has a classy look to it. For the Cooler i believe the freezer7 can fit. The Ultima90 might also beable to fit. Not 100% sure on this tho.

Boy was it ever. I think mine lasted all of two months before it showed signs of crapping out :laugh:.

As far as the cable management, at one point a couple of years ago, I was using a pretty standard EarthWatts style non-modular PSU. I'm still amazed I didn't permanently warp/deform the case with all the bending and coaxing I had to do as far as getting the power cables to route properly.

The current iteration of my rig uses a modular PSU, which is much more convenient as far as managing the cabling mess. The cable sleeving also helps.

If I were doing a SFF build from scratch, I would definitely go with something a bit more modern than the old QPack 1. Part of me also wonders why they didn't simply turn the motherboard tray 90 degrees and have the IO ports on the sides -- it might be able to fit a regular ATX that way. Someone must have decided that was just too non-standard :p.

The only other case I know of that is pink or has pink in it is the
iCute QH02-4GA-PP

but no US reseller has one; you would have to get it shipped from Australia or see if eBay has one.

Even still it might not have enough black...

I love the one on Inovy! Oh and I am still not sure what to buy in concerns to hardware. But a midtower case sounds like a good plan since I plan on it being a nice gaming rig. Prolly going to go with the 8800GTX, just don't know if anything better will come out by the time I have enough money :p

snap go for a 8800GT instead of a GTX. They perform almost on par with a GTX, and its about 300 dollars cheaper. Assuming the GTX is still near 700 dollars.


Also the 8800GT is the new G92 platform, and has hardware HD playback, as well as run cooler off the bat then a 8800GTX.

Now for a board, if you go with the invoy, it can take a full size ATX. That means your not limited to ANY board on the market. I would get a very good reliable board that can put out and do more.

My personaly favorates are:

Gigabyte P35-DQ6 or DS3P or DS3R
Asus P5K-Premium or Asus P5K-DLX or Asus P5K-E
Asus P5E - XXX <--- X38 chipset boards. Make sure you get one for DDR2 and not DDR3
Gigabyte X38-DQ6
ABIT IP35 series are great too

Drop a E6750 or a Q6600 <if your going quad you should invest in a better sink>

The Invoy might take a freezer, and it also might take a ultima90. You should do some messuring to be sure.

For the PSU, i would look at something modular unless your going to be running a full sorte of hard drives, and opticals. Which i dont think you are cuz your space limited. But the Corsair HX620 which is modular and on sale for 127.00 @ zipzoomfly.com might be a good choice for you.

Hard drive, get the largest capacity you can get. Dont get a Raptor, there kinda loud comapred to a seagate 7200.11 like a 750gb or even a 1TB drive.

As far as prices for graphics cards go, the 8800GT is about $250-$280 right now, but performs within 10% of the 8800GTX (which is probably still over $450 new). The new 8800GTS 512mb (based on the same hardware as the recently-released 8800GT) seems to be around $350, and outperforms the GTX (and also the Ultra, if I remember correctly... I haven't really checked the benchmarks). Most people still say the 8800GT is a better buy, but the 8800GTS 512mb has a two-slot cooler and may overclock better than the 8800GT.

As far as PSUs go, I second the recommendation for a modular Corsair PSU. Personally, I would go with an HX520W, because they're usually a bit cheaper at around $90, but if you feel like you need the extra power in the 620, go ahead. I think the 620 also comes with an extra SATA power cable, too... I need to get an extra one :eek:

Otherwise, I agree with aigo's suggestions. My motherboard picks would be shortened down to just the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L and the Abit IP35E, but that's because I'm cheap. I like my P35-DS3R muchly, but I wish it had better cooling management (Abit and Asus both trump Gigabyte in this respect).

i recomeneded the larger class boards because once you get up there, the cooling all evens out.

Then you need to see which board is the most stable and can take the most stress.

That board will be the GA P35-DQ6 which is discontinued. Hands down and without a doubt this board is my most durable.

After that the ASUS boards shine in in durability. However, i hear the CSR blows for ASUS. Thats why i stopped using them.

The ABIT is a great cheap board. I have 1 on a quad that does nothing but crunch. The board is great, but unless you pick the pro, the E is very lacking in a lot of respects. If your a hardcore gamer, a second PCI-E is almost required, with even 3rd PCI-E being prefered.


Im just listing all the parts ive had really good luck and experience with.


BTW: just a little note, STAY AWAY FROM NVIDIA BASED BOARDS + INTEL PROCESSORS

SLI is NOT worth it in aspect that most nvidia boards ive owned for intel's all sucked hardcore.

HD3870 Xfire doesnt seem that bad either
