I have one that I must use to get my DVD player to work on this crap 21" TV/VCR unit. It dims and brightens like nuts unless I put the defeater in-line.

That's exactly what Macrovision does, it screws with the automatic gain control found in newer VCR's.

I can't even watch DVD on this TV without a defater whether I'm using the VCR or not. The same DVD player($80 low-end model from Fred Meyer) plays fine on our 25" TV in our living room that doesn't have a VCR built in.

Just buy an RF adapter switch, run the DVD player into that then the coax into the TV.

I got lucky with my VCR, it's not affected by macrovision so I can use my ps2 on my older TVs

Oh course it didn't help. The VCR is affecting the picture. Combo units suck like that.

So where did you get the macrovisoin unit?

I don't know about the macrovision defeater, but I'm considering buying one of these so that I can watch DVD's on our crappy TV through our VCR.... it's got a firmware update that will remove the Macrovision protection. And for $50 (if you can find it) or $70 (more likely, but that price might drop soon) it's a pretty good deal :)
