Anyone know where I can find a desk similar to this, but cheaper?

I've always used one like this at school and it's really comfortable. Been wanting a new desk for a few months now and I just wanted to find one like the ones at school... but $1,200 is waaaayyyy too much for me to pay for a desk.

Or, if anyone can find some n00b plans for building a similar one, that would rock, too.

TIA.

Step 1: Buy two drill-press type stands at sears, home despot, or lowes
Step 2: Buy a piece of countertop at above places
Step 3: Place countertop on stands
Step 4: Enjoy new desk.

Cost me about $250 to do all that.

Yeah, I'd be all about the simple solution like that, but I've done it before and it's just not comfortable.

It gives plenty of space, but wrists resting on the edge of it and all just don't seem right.

I like the desk in the link because it's nice and smooth, it's the perfect height, below the shelf for the monitors is has 3U racks which would be great to mount a file server in, among other great utilities, and I don't know if that particular one does, but the ones I use at school have some nice cable management clips in the back designed for audio systems with all sorts of wiring. In a 4.1 setup (possibly going 5.1 or better soon) that would really help out to ensure that a power line doesn't cross a speaker line and give a nice annoying buzz through the speakers.

Wow that is incredibly expensive. Looks like a double decker version of all the desks at my highschool. I hope the school doesnt pay near that much for each desk though.... wow.

Ya the price on that thing is pretty insane.

What the hell makes it cost so much?

It's pretty much just the designer version of something that I think can be found cheaper... I just don't know what the heck to search for on google to find it!

Part of it is that it is nice and sturdy... not some put together piece of crap... I think it comes assembled! Below the monitor shelf are 3U racks for rackmount equipment.

The desks are designed with A/V editing in mind... and damn near everything relating to that is expensive.

I'd be surprised if Ikea didn't offer something at least reasonably similar...or something at Staples/OD/OM on sale
