I've got Z-5500 speakers, and I love them with all my heart. Sad thing they're hard to find now, I think I paid $229 for them.

Would the PX2 with 35 watts per channel be enough to power the Velodynes though? The PX2 can be found under 200, while the HX500 is 500+

I really don't know enough about them to have an opinion
If you're thinking about spending that much though, I would be much more comfortable mentioning the Panasonic digital units again.
For around $200 you could get an XR-55 or XR-57.
Would those be too big?

I just compared the Panasonic's to a Onkyo with http://www.sizeasy.com/ and they are basically the same size for the most part. I think i'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and pay $500 for the sharp since i don't have the space for one of these massive receivers.

You don't have room for something 4" tall that weighs 10 pounds?
Panasonic XR57
~17x15x4.2in 10.4 pounds
Sharp HX500
Main unit ~14x8x3.5in 6.6pounds
+
Amp unit ~14x8x4.75in 11pound

I'm just gonna move my printer out of this room and put it in the back room in order to make room for the panasonic.
I read some reviews on the sharp units and they basically say the things very small and pretty, but sound horrible.

Maybe more people will consider moving up to entry level HT stuff like X-LS

Those are gigantic. PC speakers should be small.

Well tell me this. If only big drivers are capible of creating excellent sound, then why is it that so many people spend $200+ on a pair of headphones?
For those reading - keep in mind that with computer speakers, you're not far away at all, may not necessarily need those larger drivers. I would recommend sticking with stuff like the x-ls if possible though.Originally posted by: YOyoYOhowsDAjello

Well that's a major reason why PC speakers tend to suck
Works fine for PC speakers for me

Headphones and speakers work differently. You only have to get a very very small volume of air going at a very short distance with headphones.

How about the problem of headphones being powered by a single driver. Are they able to reproduce full range sounds using only a single driver? For home theater setups, anyone would recomend three different drivers to reproduce the full range of sounds.

Glad it's working out for you.
It's always nice to hear back from people once they actually buy stuff
