The Mantidfly shown only 4 legs with 2 grapler arms and the antenas are too short. Its look closer to the snakefly than anything else.Originally posted by: Jeff7
Texan Snakefly (Agulla nixa) - closest match I can find in my Audubon Society field guide.
And I see you're in Texas too.
I'll scan the pic in the book and post it shortly.
Pic
Looks like that "stinger" thing is actually an ovipositor; and according to this book, it "preys on the young of many detrimental insects." Maybe the pinpricks you felt were just its tiny clawed feet gripping your neck? Or maybe it just thought that you were a detrimental insect.![]()
Hmm, second look at the pic, no, maybe not. Try a Mantidfly. It's got the shorter abdoment, and the downturned head.
It's definitely not a formosan termite.Originally posted by: LinuxIdiot
it finally found something that looks similar a Formosan Termite, however I have found no mention of the elongated head

Yeah, teh Canon A40 can't take macro worth a sh|t!
Depth of field is very short, therefor try slower shutter speed to increase fstop (try f22 or f16).Originally posted by: LinuxIdiot
Yea I understood the flower stood for macro, but what else determines how good the pic clarity is, exposure for instance what should that be set at? Iso? mine is exposure 1/1250 I believe and I just changed the ISO to 400 on a hunch. But![]()
