Anyone know what the thing is called that lets you play cd's into a cassette deck in a car?

Hey now, I'm a Dep. Manager at the Kmart electronics dep. Don't laugh. 🙂 All it is is a 1/8th inch to cassette adapter, dunno what the official Rat Shack terminology is though....

Yes, they sell adapters but they are really stopgap solutions. The sound quality will remain tape quality and the unit tends to jam on occasion. Sony makes a "Car Discman" that has a cassette like adapter that goes into the tape deck and a cable goes into the player. You play CDs off the Discman. Other drawbacks include power. You can only play as long as the unit has battery.

Emerson makes a personal CD player with an FM transmitter. You just tune your car radio to an empty frequency between 88-92 and you can also tune the CD player's output frequency to match. You don't need a car kit and you don't need a car stereo with a tape player. A simple AM/FM radio is all that's needed. I don't know why only Emerson makes something like this.

The only place I've seen these in stores was in a Shopko. Shopko is only in MN, IA, and Wisconsin I think. These were on sale last week for $49 and I posted in Hot Deals, but nobody seemed to care. Oh well, I tried to help some people.
