Anyone know what kind of bird this is?

I had the door open and was sitting here when this bird flew tight up to the door, and hovered for a few seconds, than went backwards and hovered again and than flew away.

I thought only humming birds could hover and fly backwards.

I got a pic of him after he left the front door and perched himself on the tree
