Anyone know this 70-80's movie, ghost type story

Thought i posted this already, but maybe I didn't.

If OT is not for this, then please let me know as there have been many movie discussions here.

It's a ghost story set in a mansion. One of the scenes shows a lady swimming then trapped underwater as if glass were on top.

Another shows the character(s) trying to escape by driving out, but the road keeps bringing them back to the house.

I thought it was the Changeling...also the Legacy rings a bell, but I looked that up and it wasn't it.

Anyone know?

 
Seen that a couple times, but don't recall the name. There's also the old woman upstairs they feed, but never see. The Mom going psycho and becoming the old woman. At the end the House resides itself, sorta.
 
burnt offerings seems close but no mention of someone driving away only to come right back to the house again.

Here is a review of Burnt Offerings that has several screen captures that might help you make a positive (or negative ID)

It even has pictures of the house and pool from the film taken in 1997/98

Hmmm- that pool scene. glass on the top........ I am getting a better picture in my brain now

I *THINK* you are talking about a 1979 file called "The Legacy" or "The Legacy of Maggie Walsh"


and yes, I *DID* spend too much time watching B horror/fantasy.sci-fi movies as a kid in the late 70s-early 80s 😉
 
Don't think that is it. The pool was an indoor pool and there was the ghost or one of the protagonists watching from a dark balcony at one of the ends.

Hmm, you're probably right. The Pool scene in Burnt Offerings, as the link mentions, has first the water in the pool getting all turbulent, then the father goes nuts trying to drown his kid.
