Anyone know the standard treatment for depression? Anyone done it? Did it help?

A lot of docs will just slap you on meds and call it good. The better ones will recommend counseling first, or at least along with any drugs.

Considering there really isn't a cure for depression, treatment plans are tailored to the individual. Sometimes it's ant-depressant drugs, sometimes single/group therapy and/or a mixture of both. 🙂

What on earth made you think ATOT was a good place to post this?

Because there are probally people here who suffer from depression and ATOT was created for non-computer related issues 🙂

I know of someone who took medication for anxiety and it helped. It also helped the persons overall mood. I wouldnt rule medication out. Consult a doctor.

This one is strong in the neff... but also strong in resisting the neff.

Found a woman(who's now my wife) that made me realize that things don't suck as bad as I made them out to be.

Being in an area with lots of sunshine or bright lights tend to better my mood. If I get stuck in this den for a couple days, I forget to shave, eat, & can't care to tell what time it is.

"standard" these days is a combination of drugs and therapy. the drugs change the brain somewhat, making it possible to take action. therapy (often cognitive therapy) helps to see what is going on, so that you don't keep knocking your head against the wall.

I've had troubles with depression, but now I'm over it. I've been exercising a lot and taking vitamins over the past two weeks and it seems to be working. Actually today was the first day in a long time I have said that I feel great.

If you don't get much exercise I would say try that before you go the drug route. Too many people try to fix things with a pill. Look at your diet and make sure you are getting what your body needs.

Are we talking about chemical-imbalance type depression or more of a situational depression?

This question is very relevant. It makes a huge difference.
But for general depression from certain situations (like divorce, loss of a loved one, lost job or even all of the above) require time, friends, family, fun and acceptance.
