I hope this is PC will be used for some type of firewall/router setup because you don't need X and in fact you won't be able to run anything like X, KDE or Gnome on that type of hardware. If your looking for something like a firewall/router type setup then that box should be fine. If you want KDE or Gnome then you need something like at least 64-128 mb's and at least a 250mhz or faster. I got 3 boxes aside from my main rig and all using KDE 3.0. All are P2's and range from 300mhz-450mhz and have 128-256 mb's of ram in them along with 32mb tnt 2 cards in each. Overall all 3 run pretty snappy. I picked up these boxes up at Ebay and spent about $60-90 ( doesn't include shipping ) bucks on each.

You might be able to run X (needed for graphics), but the fancy window managers like KDE and Gnome are not an option on that machine. I have Mandrake 8.2 on a P2-233 with 96 MB and KDE uses a lot of RAM and is a little sluggish.

You do have a couple of options. Less intensive window managers are available (IceWM, etc) and those might be alright... And like NorthenLove said, you can run the system as a server in text mode and use browser-based administration (Webmin) from your main system.

im typing this on a p133 w/ 48mb RAM on mandrake 8.2 w/ X.... a bit sluggish, but it runs. i guess it depends on what you call "minimum" requirements.
