Anyone know the 90% principle

I remember hearing somthing like "90% of the cost of engineering is spent squeezing out a 10% performance gain"

Has anone heard this and know the exact expression or principle, or have a link? Btw, I'm checking Google, but it's not an easy phrase to search. Any help is appreciated.

Yeah, I'll probably have to use that. It's for a ppt presentation, so I think the whole 90% thing would have resonated more, but the law of diminishing returns should be good enough.

Don't forget the complementary statement that by cutting back 10% of performance, you can save 90% cost. :-D

It's called Pareto's Principle, and it's 80/20 as you've already figured out.
