Anyone know stuff about digital cameras?

I'm just looking for something with:

1)profession, nice looking picture quality, no high res needed
2)fast PC connection (USB?)
3)Doesn't take forever to take 2 pictures in a row

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Any personal recommendations?
I have been recommended the Sony Maciva (spell?)

check out what kodak has to offer, i think they will suffice. They are expensive though. just go to best buy, and they have a pretty good selection for a good price.

Depends what your price range is. For me the best buy was what I got: Canon S10: 2 Megapixel=same printed quality as a regular camera (at least very close), type II card (I am using a IBM microdrive 340Mb=over 1000 pics at very good quality), USB connection (less than a second of transfer to the computer), not ridiculous ly expensive: less than $400, plus the battery and recharger came out total of $450 (excluding the microdrive, of course). As for the speed between 2 pics I haven't tried it but the manual says it can take 1.7 pics/s.
If you want the best quality pics, and it turns out to be also quite cheaper you have the Nikon Coolpix 800 (quality very close to its bigger brothers). The only thing is you would have to get a card reader in order to get the USB... The only disadvantage of this one is only the type I card (accepts up to 128Mb) and no USB, but it comes complete for less than $350 (or less if you look around and use coupons...)

i wouldn't recommend the sony mavica, or any sony digital camera for that matter. the mavica uses floppies, which severely limits picture capacity without constantly swapping discs, and the cybershot, sony's other consumer line, uses its proprietary memory stick technology. i have a canon s10 and am very pleased with it. my roommate had a kodak dc290, which had more features, but was bulbous and ugly. (imho.)

I got the Kodak DC280 and kinda wish I had gotten the 290 because of the increase optical zoom.

But the DC280 has an adapter for lenses so you can get more optical that way.

I just got one myself. I read every review under the sun and decided on the Olympus D-460. It has zoom, can take 2 pic/sec, is super easy to use, and is availible for around $320.00. In low res, with the standard flash card shipped with the unit, you can store 120 pictures.

The software is a pleasure to use. Very simple and runs flawless.

I also wanted USB. Given the number of articles that showed that the image quality of the Olympus model being superior to anything else in its price range, I decided that serial would be good enough. I really have no complaints about the speed of the download. USB would have been better, but it was not important enough to sacrifice the other things.

The Kodak got poor reviews for its software support. That and its image quality was not up to par with the Olympus. Really, either camera will do. The Kodak is quite a bit more expensive.

Just got an Epson PhotoPC 650 - works like a charM!

1.09 Megapixels, USB and parallel port connectivity, 8 MB flash card, auto flash w redeye reduction, and a whole lot more. Got it for 200 $US refurbished!

I have Kodak DC290. I took some pictures and print it out on an 8x10 and the quality is unbelievable. It had a bigger bodies than most cameras, but man does it feel manly when you hold one in your hand.

I work with the Kodak 280 and it takes beautiful pictures. Lots of nice features, and the USB is great!

Got it for $220 form buy.com. Nice camera good features
you also can get lenses and other items for $200 ....it was well
worth my $$$$....

Also it is pretty nice on batteries!

The main thing I am concerned about is the picture quality. I want something that lets you take a picture of a nice sunset and it doesn't come out looking like a throw-away camera, but more like a professional shot.

Only reason I mentioned Sony Mavica was because I saw some pictures from it and they looked pretty professional. Keep in mind I've only seen those and the ones from my crappy Fujifilm.

Picture quality and download speed are really the two things I am looking for. The S10 sounds pretty good from what you guys say. How is its picture quality after you d/l from it? I have taken pics with my cheapo Fujifilm (in Yosemite and Lake Tahoe) and it doesn't capture NEAR the beauty of the real view.
