Anyone know stuff about bowling balls?

I'm looking to get a bowling ball under $50 but I have no idea where to start (I want to buy online because I can probably get a better deal and then get holes fitted later).

I spin/hook/curve the ball (whatever you want to call it) - is there a special ball for that?

Any suggestions?

For that price I'd go to a local shop and have them sell you one, that price will get you a beginner's ball

Yeah, I think it's called a "bowling" ball.

I'm not sure about good deals on bowling balls online, shipping would probably rape you on a 16 pound ball.

Actually, if you buy the ball at a store that sells the balls, they drill the holes in the ball to match your hand/finger size.

Yes, they have different surfaces on the outside of them which determines the amount of "bite" that they have on the lanes.

But, on the other hand, during the course of a game, or the course of the day, or week, depending on how often they oil the lanes, the surface changes quite a bit... good bowlers can adjust to it though... new bowlers are going to have more trouble adjusting to it - the effect of the lanes will be smaller than the effect of natural variation of the bowler due to his skills.
