I was looking at the the link he displayed....

And really started to like the sound it gave out.

Very peaceful music. Not quite music which I would listen to while driving but music to relax, without a doubt.

Since it's completely out of the type of music i'm familiar with I have no idea where to look.

Anyone know?

I also think Tom Petty has a really smooth mellow voice. Coupled with his good music, that could be considered relaxing.

The words you're looking for are "ambient" and "atmospheric". Check out stuff like Future Sound of London or listen to the Drone Zone streaming radio station on SomaFM. I'd also check out some of Delerium's older stuff like their Spheres I and Spheres II albums.

That is your best option.

Another group I thought of is Aphex Twin.

Of course John Tesh (Avalon in particular).

Also find your local PRI affiliate station and start listening to Echoes

The Moon Safari CD by Air is mindblowing. Man, that CD takes me to my happy place every time. Also, the () "no name" CD by Sigur Ros is pretty kick ass as well.

True that, but they aren't really as ambient as the op though. Try Brian Eno - Ending (Ascent)

I fire up winamp, hit alt+L and lookup something classical or turn on "GrooveSalad" - both relax me very quickly.

1 of her song is really getting on my nerve since they used to play it over and over in the radio. It's a soundtrack to one of Keanu Reeves' movie.
