Wat people are supposed to listen to from america is classical pakistani, afghan, and hindi music to find out the difference between eras of renissance. For instance, you can go to www.muziq.net and click classical ghazals, or virtualafghans.com and click music, then click ustad sarahang, or ustad rahim baksh, or for modern music from afghanistan or pakistan go to the sites listed and explore them.

This is minimalist ambient music. You will love anything by Robert Rich, especially a phenomenal album named "Trances and Drones". Also check out:

Harol Budd - Lovely Thunder
Biano Eno - Atmospheres and Soundtracks (this one is an absolute classic)

there are countless others, but the above should be enough to keep you listening for a long while.

I'm a huge ambient/electronic fan and if you need any other suggestions I'll help out. By the way, the abum are beatless as is the stuff on the website. There are many other shades of ambient, ranging from purely drones to trip-hop.
