that's what I'm coming up against too. Why would they not use the site nor have an interest in selling it?
I've got a few domains that I'd registered when I was in a more expansionist mood, corresponding to companies or projects I'd meant to get started back then. While the company/project is currently on hold, that doesn't mean I'd want to get rid of the domain yet. I also work with a guy who is very creative and comes up with a new fabulous idea for a website he really means to create (except that he can't write html or use a web design program) every few hours. Initially, I'd go ahead and register the domains he'd ask me to, but more recently I've just been nodding politely when he asks (he's yet to notice that I haven't registered any of these domains for a couple of years now)...but if I ask him about any of these, he'll assure me that I really do need to hang on to them because he's really going to design a site to put there Real Soon Now.
People are weird about domains. Mostly I get angry emails and the occasional phone call in the middle of the night from people demanding that I *give* them the domain name they were interested in just because they want it. It doesn't seem to make a difference whether it's one of the names I'm actually using or not; they want it and don't understand why they can't just have it.
