anyone know of domains for POPULAR U.S. websites that use extensions other than .com, .edu. org, .net ?

I can't get the extension for the domain that I want but the domain is available with a less common extension. I'm just wondering if I should go for the domain with the less common extension or keep trying to find an available .com.

If you don't know it off the top of your head, why would anybody consider it popular?

amazon.co.uk ?

.tk is popular because it's free, but I don't know any popular sites using it.

i prefer .coms

look for something suitable. otherwise, you could get a .tv or .info or whatever they have now, but i personally think those are knock-offs.

You realize that if you use a domain with a nonstandard extension, people will be constantly going to the .com version of your site correct? Keep looking.

I always try for a .com domain name but sometimes will settle for a .net. It depends on how commercially important your domain is and how you expect people to find it.

so, should I register the hypenated version of the two-word domain or should I register the two-word domain with an ".at" extension?

Austria?

I'd go for the hyphen. but if the non hyphen is taken, people are probably going to go to that one all the time.

unless it's for a personal website that not many people will be using, I'd keep looking for a .com

my domain name is at a .net, and even I find myself typing in the .com address by mistake ;)

stupid squatters *shakes his fist* they're not doing anything with the address, but have it registered for the next 10 years and refuse to sell :|

that's what I'm coming up against too. Why would they not use the site nor have an interest in selling it?
