Anyone know of an IDE cable that's male on BOTH ends?

ehm, the male is the one WITH pins 😛 you swapped em around methinks, an ide cable is female only, and the devices are male.

I'm sure there are extension cables out there (male+female) but twice male ... no idea.

And you could make your own cable if need be.

 I have never seen a male IDE cable and curious why would you want one?

Haha, I knew this would raise a few eyebrows 🙂

Yes, I DO need an IDE cable that's MALE on both ends, and I AM going to connect cable to cable, sorta.

You know those IDE to USB adapters that allow you to easily convert an internal drive into an external? I need a male to male IDE cable so that I can hook one of these IDE to USB devices into a double device ribbon cable, so I can run TWO drives off of one adapter. I did this back when I had an external enclosure, but all I had to do was swap the existing single device cable with a dual device one, and it worked very well.

Thanks gsaldivar for the links. A gender changer is what I need 🙂

Go to www.samtec.com and look up their IDMD series.

**EDIT**
This is not the "double-ground" cable, so if this really is for IDE, you data rate will be limited.

Samtec also makes similar "data-rate" cables. Try their HHSC line.

Like ribbon13 said, why don't you try and make one yourself. It's very easy and cheap. I'm making my own cables for my electronics projects. Just make sure pin1, at one end, goes to pin1 at the other end.

I know that Firewire can handle more than one device per IDE adapter but I didn't think USB was capable of that - connect a mobile rack to your USB to IDE cable and swap drives instead...
. If you really want to do that, you'll probably have to have that adapter custom made. Just Google on 'custom cables'.

you would get ata/33 instead of 66/100/133 with the 80conductor cable is how i understand it.

i only use 40 conductor for cdroms and such that run ata/33

Oh man!! I'd love to make my own IDE cables. Problem is I can't find a place that'll sell me just a spool of wire and the connectors for the slave/master. If you could enlighten us all as to where you get your raw materials I'd be very grateful. On a side note, would I need 40 wires or 80 wires for my regular IDE 120 gig HDs??

Thanks!!

Hi TubbyBeefpile and Welcome to the Forums!

You'll want a 80 wire cable for that IDE HDD

Are you encouraging IDE same-sex relations?

As I understand it, in the US that is prohibited in many states....

and mandatory in others... 😛
