Anyone know of a good way to support rear speakers?

I know there's always stands, but most of the time they cost a lot and only work with one set of speakers (i.e. Klipsch's). Are there decent stands that will work for a number of different speakers, or a desk that fully wraps around to support them?

And I know someone's going to suggest to just use a box or a shelf or something, but this would be for a main apartment room, so both space and aesthetics are important.

I feel your pain and also live in an apartment. I say some that probably cost $10 to make sell for $50+. They are way too expensive for what you get.

If you are feeling lucky, you could always try building your own, that way you can make them look exactly like you want. $10 in wood and a can of spraypaint or some stain will go a long ways. The only downside is that you need a saw, hammer and nails. Now I'm really going off topic here, but has anyone seen those Cordless Drill/Circular Saw combos? I saw a 14.4 Volt Craftsmen at Sears for $90. I heard these things aren't too bad... you can at least cut through a 2x4 and they're okay for light work.

I've been thinking about setting something up with PVC pipe, where the speakers would hang off the pipe kind of like the Creative Labs display I've seen at CompUSA......

I would rather have the speakers hanging than sitting on the floor...

I'm always reading HT forums and stuff, and there are stands out there that are for general speakers, but they also get pretty expensive. As someone else suggested already, DIY is a good idea to consider, since I've seen a lot of good looking, relatively-inexpensive stands.

Currently using Klipsch 4.1s, but ya never know when a hot deal will pop up on something better, so I want to keep my options open.
