So I'm starting a new job on Monday as a systems administrator for an all Microsoft Network. I normally do linux and it's been about 2 years since I've done any real admin work on a MS network, and that was with 2k. When 2k3 was released I got a copy through my school and set up a domain, so I know the essentials, but I'm looking for a good book that I can peruse and use as a reference. They don't currently have a domain set up, and they just opened an office in India, and they will be opening another site across town later this month, so I'll probably want to get everything working together nicely for them.

Any advice on a good book to pick up? TIA.

The MCSE test study books are really great references, IMO. I've never taken the tests, but I learned a lot from the Windows 2000 MCSE study books. This would be a good start, and here are the others.

QFT.

I keep a 70-215 exam study guide handy at work.

Absolutely, the best books you can buy in my opinion are the latest O'Reilly books Active Directory (3rd edition) and Active Directory Cookbook (2nd edition).

I own virtually all of the latest Microsoft Press books, and while they have some good technical information, the O'Reilly books absolutely destroy the Microsoft Press books when it comes to readibility and delivering practical information.
