Been watch Planet Green all day and am inspired to change my ways. But would like to know where I am now to track my improvements.

I wonder what the world could do with this economic crisis if it diverted it's intellectual and financial resources away from the eco-fad and actually started producing more things of value with that time and money?

I suppose any solar-powered calculator would be "green"... at least until you throw it away.

Heehee, someone lit up the eco-KOOK signal just for you!
I think "ultimate grift" is a bit extreme. Look at the pet rock. Or televangelism.

Such as what? Value is a subjective term. The economy will improve if there is a big push for green tech because it will mean more jobs, items being purchased, etc. The more people agree with what has value, the more we gain by focusing energy and money into it. I think green tech is a pretty good outlet right now, regardless of whether it actually helps the environment. To me that is secondary to innovation and jobs. If there are other industries that will draw both mass public and business to them, I'm all for investing in those as well / instead.

I've always found it amusing that green is both the color that the eco groups have adopted for themselves as well as nuclear waste.

If it takes just a tv show to make you think that, might I suggest watching another show. Penn & Teller's Bullshit Season 6.

look at all the generators, pallets of cornflakes, survival food and bomb shelters the Y2K kooks got taken for. A lot of that stuff ended up in garage sales and ebay for pennies on the dollar. This will be the same.

Douchebaggery at it's finest. If you really gave a shit you would just commit mass murder then suicide. Imagine all the carbon you'd be cutting

It was a great episode. We see what "science" goes into these carbon footprint calculations, who owned at least 2 of them, and whatnot. Sucks that I can't see their new episode tonight because we don't have showtime.

Apparently having a car alone puts me over the country average. That doesn't seem right.

Edit: Nevermind. It wanted yearly mileage, not the mileage on the car. I produce 12.79 tonnes of CO2.

Yay.

because figuring out how to consume the same more efficiently, thereby saving resources, is such a horrible thing

It depends on how carried away we get with it. There's such a thing as diminishing returns on an investment.
