Just wondering like the subject says. Anyone know? Basically I will be building a new rig in the next few weeks (once Canterwood and P4c chips are around). I orgionally was gonna go with the 9700 pro AIW, but with the 9800's out now, I was wondering if anyone knew when the 9800 pro AIW is gonna be available. Most reviews are saying if you did not already have a 9700, buy the 9800 since there were some benefits. Well that seems to be me, except I want/need an AIW. I already have plans on using the add on for it as well, so just getting a regular and the add on for the TV will not do what I have planned (I need both of them, rig is for PVR and will need multiple tunners to recode multiple shows at same time).

Edit:
Side note, it is not JUST going to be a PVR, but that is part of it. Gonna be a whole multimedia workstation for video editing and recording as well as a lot of gaming.

Nope, no 9800 Pro AIW any time soon if any at all. I've psoted this before but I'll say it again. A few weeks ago, I was on the support line with ATI and once I finished getting help, which was with a very kind fellow, I asked him if/when the next AIW card would be out. He told me that there will be another AIW card and he also said how for the past 3 years ATI has released them towards the end of the year. I asked if this would change because the 9800 cards are meant to replace the 9700 cards. He coughed and said that for the past 3 years they've been releasing them towards the end of the year, thats such a big hint, he could have just said it. So no, none soon. I would reccomend something else though since I was too, in your situation. I ended up getting a Winfast Leadktek 2000XP Deluxe card which is a tuner/radio/capture card. It is a nice card and I like it.

Since you need to do multiple captures at the same time, you could just get a PCI version of just the All In Wonder from ATI. The last option if you want to use a 9800 is to setup a cheap system with the 9700 Pro AIW and a TV Wonder card which is requires to capture two shows at the same time and then just transfer those files over.

hehe...well as for the money, I just got my first real job (Unix Network and Systems Admin) a few months back, and have been saving up for a whole year before that (my main comp died back then, been living off laptop since).

Hmmm... well I will start looking at other capture cards then I guess. Just figured that since I knew the AIW did a good job that I would use the ATI solution for this, but looks like I shall be doing research on capture cards now. Anyone have any suggestions? Looking to do multiple captures at once, but high quality is the MOST important feature. If multiple captures are not possible, I guess I will just have to live without. Time to start googling....

WOOHOO! Ok, now I guess I will have to just live with the GeForce I got in my old system till these come out (don't feel like spending money I know I will just be tossing when this card is available). Damm, so much for having my full rig within the next 3 weeks (been waiting on Canterwood and P4 3.2 GHz which come out next Monday).

I suggest you go get the ATI 9800 Pro and the ATI TV Wonder VE. Currently the VE has a special offer running which gets you the remote controller free.

In general graphic chips get upgraded and uprated quite often, but the TV and capture chips rarely. So if you get yourself the TV Wonder card then you might, in the long run, be saving yourself some money. Plus I rather have my doubts about the 9800 AIW's heat dissipation.

Just a thought! Incidentally I have the ATI AIW 9700 Pro and it works okay. However there is banding on the TV input and I gather this is a rather common problem. Since I actually using S-video input and not TV, I cannot say I care very much, but you should check the TV quality for this fault immediately you get any ATI card!

According to The Register

ATI will release its latest All-in-Wonder graphics card, the 9800 Pro, this Spring, the company said today. Beyond upgrading its family of TV-on-a-PC cards to its top-end Radeon 9800 Pro graphics chip, the new All-in-Wonder will feature an on-screen home cinema configuration system, EazyLook.

The Radeon 9800 sports a 256-bit memory interface, capable of connecting to 256MB of DDR SDRAM video memory. The chip supports eight parallel pixel pipelines, and a host of ATI technologies all with trademark signs.

Trademark signs abound in the All-in-Wonder card, which will retail in the US for $449. The 9800 PRO supports translucent video playback (what for?), programme recording and time-shift viewing, picture enhancement, closed captions, a 125-channel stereo TV tuner, and full-screen (TV) MPEG-2 video capture.
