anyone know if ibook updates in the forseeable future?

a friend of mine wants to get a laptop simply for the purpose of couch browsing... He likes macs, so he's bent on a mac laptop. I figured I'd suggest the 12" ibook since they are reasonably priced ($1074 w/512MB)

just one thing I want to check: is anyone aware of a looming ibook update in the near future that he should wait for (other than tiger), or it safe to order now (well, as soon as tiger ships or they start giving out coupons)

Apple sure is slow to update their laptops. They are pretty far behind x86 in processing power.

I'm not even sure my Powerbook _has_ a fan in it. :Q

😕

My point was something along the lines of: it's small, powerful, light, and cool. I've maxed out the processor (seti + compiling software) and never heard a fan. 😉

Mmm, silence.

Hell, my laptop's louder than my desktop. 😛

hehe same here

except, my new desktop doesnt have a gfx card in it yet

k then, with no concrete plans for updates, I guess it's as safe as ever to get an ibook, as long as it comes with tiger.

CPU power not a big issue for this task, considering most 12" intel-based laptops in this price range are either PIII-M, or centrino 1.2GHz based
