Anyone know if a cancerous lump would HURT? UPDATE in first post..

I've had this little lump on my neck for quite awhile now, and over the last few days it's started to really hurt. No pain at all before that. I'm hoping it's just some sort of cyst or something...

Update:

Good news: It's not a tumor, just a abscess so I'll be around to post more jokes.

Bad news: It's not a tumor, just a abscess so I'll be around to post more jokes.
Update:#2

So I had to go back to the Doc. today and get my dressing changed (though I had done it a few times since Friday) and get it looked at again. Tunes out there WAS a cyst and it had become infected (didn't know this kind of stuff happened) so today he got the cyst out and repacked the hole in my neck. :disgust:

Hopefully one more trip and I'll be all well again. 🙂

Alien?

I vote for a cyst. I had one on my back years ago and it started hurting like a mutherfker so bad I finally went to the doctor. I won't go into detail what they did. Needless to say it was very painful, but after it was over with I felt much better. Unfortunately, I could no longer have children or experience the joy of an orgasm.

Way to much fvcking information!!!

I don't know if this is just for the lump that I had and the area it was located, but the doctor told me that cysts are usually softer because they're liquid filled and tumors are hard and feel like a little pebble.

Well it wasn't too hard until it started hurting. It's gotten a bit larger over the past two days.

It all started with a little sore that didn't seem to want to heal. When it did finally heal, there was a small lump where the sore had been.

I'm starting to get a bit worried about it.

It's not death I fear, just PAIN!

From your description it sounds like a cyst. Not nearly as serious in the short run as a cancerous tumor, but you really do need to get it taken care of.

IIRC you are a vet. Don't you have any veterans' hospitals or clinics in that state? As a vet you are guaranteed free healthcare for the rest of your life.

Edit: This is one of the reasons I have never been too concerned about not being covered by health insurance at times in the past.

I'm nothing close to a Dr, but the hardness sounds like it might be scar tissue from the sore. The pain may means that the sore got infected and your skin healed over it. That now means that if it is an infection, the infection is under your skin. You need to see a Doctor. I had one of the kids I coach hospitalized for a skin infection, they almost had to amputate his leg and I don't want to hear that they have to amputate your head. These forums wouldn't be the same without your stolen jokes.

Over the years I have observed many people who were "out of their heads", but never one who was "without his head." This may be interesting.

My son's mom hurt quite a bit...right from the beginning.

She was a small, inocuous lump at first; with seemingly no malignant side effects.

But then the small lump grew....like a hot air balloon being inflated between my brain and my skull, she grew.

Until the level of pain evolved from deadly to simply maddening.

Somehow, I still live...this cancer of a life-experience forever and completely lodged in my head...

I feel your pain, brother.
