This was a water bill held in my roommates name, however; due to the wording of the lease I am too responsible.
Problem is I found out about the past-due amount over 3 months after moving out, the water company would not talk to me due to me not being listed on the bill...it was a small apartment the final bill was $21x! Obviously an error.
No one could provide this so-called bill until almost a year later, and the copy I got showed it was faxed prior to when I asked. Currently and at the time the water company didn't keep records past one year. So now there is no proof of anything, other than someone at my address had a water account.
Anyways, we go back and forth over me just paying them vs me getting an itemized bill. This went on a year until I stopped contact due to them calling back any number I called from to ask about me and my bad debts yet never providing me what I need to do to resolve it, only I need to 'write a check for $2xx and mail it here, then we will tell you what can resolve this'
I tried to pay them off last year after not hearing from them for several years, and got the same treatment (told them I was calling from work, but it was 7pm...I would have a check out tomorrow or the day after the latest, she called back at 9am te next day asking is 'alkemyst' there? I need to see if he mailed out the past-due check he owes us...I played along until finally telling her it's 9 in the morning I have the check here, but I am not mailing it now). She will not send me a 'bill', she wants me to send $21x to her, then they will figure it out. I want a final bill and release.
It's not the 200 bux that's the problem...I don't want to pay $200 and then be told I am not done. This is over a month or two of water in an apartment that I was never on the bill for.
Most of the lawyers I talked too want way more than $200, and haven't made any promises. I am thinking taking it to small claims possibly.
