Costco. 18.99/lbs

Yikes. How does this price compare to places by the sea, like Maine, Cape Cod, etc?

Probably over twice as expensive.

In Main Lobster so cheap I hear, as cheap as chicken.

If my sarcasm meter isnt broken then the answer is no 🙁

I'm landlocked myself, and I love seafood. Thankfully the Fred Meyer's store here has some fresh lobster for $18-20/lbs. Dungeness crabs are tasty also.

Just wondering... are there any mail order gems out there? Or would the cheapest just be at the supermarket?

LobsterGram.

My parents really like it. Not cheap, though so doesn't really fit your affordable criteria.

Isn't there a Trader Joes in Cinci? They'll probably have live lobster.

For Christmas Eve dinner this year, I bought three, 1.25lb lobsters from a local fish market. I had to call them a couple days ahead of time so they'd have them there in the store. It ended up being $50 for all three, so about $13.33 per pound.

MAKE SURE the lobsters are lively when you buy them. They shouldn't be dangling their claws when you buy them. A sluggish lobster (or a lobster that doesn't move at all) is a dead lobster, which means that the shell will be full of nothing but a white liquid, since when they die their liver releases a chemical that turns the meat to a liquid. I was supposed to get four lobsters from my fish market, but one I am almost positve was dead, so I wouldn't buy it.

If I was doing it again, I'd look at getting just lobster tails if I could get them fresh enough. The whole lobsters aren't bad, but lobster tails are a lot less work.

Edit: Almost forgot, the local fish market was still cheaper than the lobsters in the tank at Meijer

1) Drive to NY
2) Get dry ice
3) go to Chinatown and get a year supplies of lobster
4) Drive back
5) Put lobster in freezer
6) cook and eat as needed
7)????
8) Profit

I don't know about most affordable, but fly to Reno, Nevada on a weekend and go to Boomtown. All you can eat Maine Lobster for around $20.

I've done that. I live 1 1/2 hours from there. Occasionally we'll drive over there. I like the lobster, don't get me wrong, but those are small and all I really want to eat is the tail and claws, as I throw the rest away. I wish they would just get some big tails, instead. 🙂

if you know how to scuba dive you can get a permit and just dive down and get them. limit 10 per day per person with a permit

and no its not as cheap as chicken in Maine, it used to be like that, i remember growing up paying ~2.00/lb for it, even in good years now itll still cost at least 2x that

in boston in the super market its round 7$ lb, cheaper from the fish market
