anyone know how to configure Earthlink's email for Gmail pop3 access ?

Gmail has pop3 access?

Cool, I guess they do. Have him click on settings at the top, and then click Forwarding and POP and then down at step 3 there is a link called configuration instructions. It doesn't matter that he uses earthlink, as the instructions apply to what email client he is using, such as Outlook or Eudora, or whatever.

i believe there specific changes that have to be made to his Earthlink email client, ( those of us that use Ooutlook Express had to make changes in it also)
