Anyone know how to change a flight with AA without penalties?

I booked a flight for for myself and my girlfriend at the end of may on American Airlines, and my girlfriend just called me up and said she can't make it that day, and would like to go a week later. I bought some cheap tickes online which are non-refundable. The cancellation/change fee on these is $100 bucks a ticket. Anyone know of a back-door way to change the flight without the penalties?

Maybe your gf should pay for the rescheduling fees.

You can do it if the CSR is in a good mood and is very very nice. Chances are you're SOL, though.
 
After she told me she would need to schedule a change, she said that she would pay for all the fees. I just feel bad about her wasting $200 for nothing....
