So, how much should a single rose cost? What if I wanted to get a dozen? I have no idea how much these cost, so I don't want to walk into some place, and get smoked on the price.

You should be able to get a dozen roses for < $20 during the off-seasons.

ok, thats pretty good. What if I were going for a single? According to the $15 a dozen, it should be between $1-2, but I doubt that would be the case.

$15 per 2 dozen

But a single rose with some baby's breath and whatnot shouldn't set you back more than $5 at a florist.

Commercial florists will have close to the same cost in any geographical area.

There will be the warehouse places (CostCo/WalMart/etc) that will have them cheaper. Quality level may be less and they may not last as long.

If you dig around you may find a small mom/pop type floral shop that has lower prices than the commercial places. They may not have ties to the national networks; but they compete on service and quality.

it all largely depends on where you live, whether you're going to a florist, whether you need em delivered, etc.

Shop around. Price varies dramatically from store to store. There is also a seasonal variation.

Typically plan on $2/rose. That is roughly the average that I see. However, you can pay far more than that at some stores at the worst time of year. And you can pay far, far less than that at some stores.

My cheapest ever was 18 roses for $12 at a low-end grocery store the day before Valentines Day. My higest cost ever was $3 for just a rose at Hy-Vee.

Sam's Club has some very cheap flowers all year round and I hear Costco does too.

florists especially trendy ones bend you over. I find look for the small carts around the city. Usually they have some of the freshest best looking flowers for the best prices. I found a small cart right outside of boston the woman always have beautiful fresh flowers for cheap money $15 for a dozen roses. and they roses always look real good and last for 1.5-2 weeks.

Do you know for a fact she LIKES roses?
I would find out her favorite flower and get that. Roses are boring and over-rated.
Daisys, Tulips, Calla Lilies, Orchids are so much better and thoughtful.
Just my opinion

Well you can't just buy a dozen at Costco, gotta get 2 dozen.

This being Anandtech, maybe you should tell us more about your relationship with this girl so we can make sure you don't come on too strong. ;)

I got a dozen for $12 at my local grocery store. Of course that was the day the girl said she didn't want to be with me so maybe that wasn't a good place to get them...
