Anyone know exact date for Intel Q3 price drops?

i thinking they plan to drop quad to 266 and god know what else to even cheaper levels, as I remember may even intro some new models.

E6X50's will be released in Q3 but the quadcore for around $270 will be nice.

but as the above poster said pretty much.. let's take this a day at a time... intel JUST dropped prices 🙂

IIRC, no specific dates yet. They will be timed to coincide with the AMD Barcelona release. Intel wants to crash the party.

FAIL!

we should be rooting for AMD. Not just because we all like amd, but because we can't afford for them to go down. If barcelona can't best Core, AMD is pretty much out of the picture.

if it weren't for AMD, we'd still be brainwashed with Netburst Architecture, owning 5ghz P4H 500w CPU requiring CTX motherboards, and cases with a design requirement of a 4x5 grid array of 120mm fans for each side of the case.

GO AMD!

Ok just to make sure will the AMD AM2 socket be compatable with the Agena quadcores when they come out.... which i suppose they are socket AM2+ ?

I went on a tour of a local PC vendors new facility yesterday, and they were also showing the new digs off to the Intel reps. This is an Intel only shop, so we had a nice discussion with the Intel people. I admitted that I was buying Intel for the first time in 5+ years this weekend, but I still would love to see AMD do well. Without AMD, I would be paying $325 for that E6600 instead of $225, so think about what you want before making a Go Intel comment.

Competition helps the consumer, bottom line. If there's only one game in town, there is NO INCENTIVE to lower the prices, so lets root for AMD to do well at this point.

You hit the nail on the head.
Well said.

Man, I just can't wait for Pentium E2160. Of course, right when I buy it AMD will probably have out something cheaper that overclocks to a higher performance level than the E2160. Oh well, I'll still be happy 🙂.

Yes, August. No specific day was mentioned as far as I know. Intel is probably allowing for changes due to what AMD might or might not do.

The reason I said "Go Intel!!" is that they are determined not to lose the performance crown ever again and they are really driving their point home.

I read Q6600 will be priced at $266 in October sometime...but who knows...we'll see! I'm waiting to upgrade as well, but waiting for Crysis to be released. Once it is released, and once I see how it runs on the hardware out at that time - that will be the time I upgrade.

AMD will weather the storm, even if it has a 2 billion dollar debt
otherwise we'll be seeing really expensive penryn/nehalem chips

i wonder what AMD will have in its product line to counter the $266 Q6600?

Hear hear!

Even if you are never, ever to buy an AMD processor in your life, it is to your best interest that Barcelona be the best processor in history.

I agree with you dudes that AMD's existance pushed prices down, as I remember Intel used to charge so much back in Pentium I and II days. I think they will not hesitate to charge like 500 bucks or 1000 bucks for CPUs again if AMD goes outta business.

You've got the right idea.

I hope Barcelona absolutely wipes the floor with C2D!!!

How about a more neutral stance in that, if it wasn't for having 2 competitors, in competition with each other then we would be paying higher prices and suffering from slower upgrade cycles.

Well, one of those competitors is in slight financial trouble now and may not exist if things don't start going right for them 😉
