Anyone know anything about this AMD processor?

Its a AMD 6000+ processor. Its 3.1 gig, 89 watts and 65nm.

Anyone know what core this is? Is this a good processor to buy? A good value against the $77 5400+ Brisbane?

Seems to be a Brisbane, only one 3100MHz desktop chip there afaik.

Its is a brisbane. Note the 1mb l2 cache. Which should read 2x512. plus 65 nm.

here is a link to a windsor core for the same price. you will receive better performance due to the increased l2 cache 2x1mb.

If you can find the k10 dual core , the Kuma based x2 go for it. I think its called x2 6500 @2.3 ghz 90++ watts (not sure).You can over clock that thing to 3.3 g's easy and it will kill any other x2 at that speed , even an x2 6000+ by some 40% to 60 %. :Q :thumbsup:

Actually, you'd get the same performance, but alot more heat. Since the 65nm version is 100 Mhz faster, and going from 512KB to 1MB per core only gives a 75-100 Mhz advantage (depending on the game, some are much less), it would pretty much be a wash, except for the extra heat from the 90nm.

Here are few review of x2 6500

athlon X2 6500 (2.3 GHz) is completely capable to compete with Athlon X2 6000+ (3.0 GHz), and sometimes to exceed it by 10%. :thumbsup:

AMD dual-core 6500 + detailed test

For now those are the only reviews I could find , but have a look it easly overclocks to 3.3 +++Ghz at that speed it will beat Brisbane at 3.5ghz.

It's not impossible to make a guess about how this chip will perform or overclock. Just look at all the "be" processors out there, or the 4850e, the lower watt phenoms. And since this is still just a revision of the old school k8, it makes it even more predictable.

You should learn to read. I never mentioned a 6500, nor do I care how it performs. Pimp that CPU somewhere else. The OP asked about two CPU's, neither of which were a Chinese-translated 6500.

Same price 89watt versus 89 watt, Id go for the increased cache version.

I can promise you that a 65nm @ 3.1 Ghz uses less power, hence produces less heat, than a 90nm @ 3,0 Ghz. The laws of physics dictate it. Are you aware of how CPU's TDPs are factored? AMD has three different TDPs for their dual-cores (or is the 6400 still a 125w chip?). Anyway, nearly all of the CPU's they sell fit into one of three TDP categories-- 45w, 65w, and 89w. If a particular model averages 46 watts, it gets put into the 65w class, not the 45w class. Likwise, if another model, like the Brisbane 6000, averages any at all over 65 watts, it won't have a 65w TDP, it will then have an 89w TDP, even if it only averages 66 or 67 watts. Now, I don't know for sure just how much power a 3.1 Ghz Brisbane uses. I do know that it will be considerably less than a 3.0 Ghz Windsor, unless AMD found a way to break the laws of physics, which I'm kind of doubting.

Ouch, a 95w TDP, for a 2.3 Ghz dual-core? You'd need a highend water setup to get that anywhere near the speed of a Brisbane 6000.

OK, from what I can gather, if you wanted no lag in 1080p video you need a combination of powerful CPU and weaker GPU or powerful GPU and weaker CPU. What if you have a Geforce 8800GS or HD 4670, would going from an Athlon X2 5400+ with 512K cache to X2 6000+ with 1MB cache or Phenom make any difference? What about when they come out with DDR3?

Does anyone know if that will make a difference?

Ok I'm pretty confused by all this. Best I can figure is that its 6 steps one way and half a dozen the other. I may as well get the brisbane as its seems like it would run cooler.
