I want to get a slot car race track for the kids. I'm looking at a set that's battery powered. Is that okay or should I get one with an electrified track? Kids are 5 and 8.
I got in on that F-1 mclaren and ferrari set from KB-toys. They flew off the track a lot if you took the turns too fast. Get one that prevents them from falling off.
That, plus my dirty dorm room often clogged the car brushes.
Powered track is the only way to go, batteries suck. It's still low-voltage (<20v typically) so it prolly won't fry your kids....and they won't be coming back for fresh batteries all the time!
I'm into them, but I race the BIG ones (at a local track)
I also ran into some guys that have a private track that race "scratch built" cars. You take a model car and use just the body then design and build a frame etc..(out of brass) It's a KICK!
