I'm looking into getting one that I can kinda use for a baby monitor type of deal as well as random other stuff.

Few key things I'm looking for are the following:
- Have some sort of night mode in it so it works in dark
- Sends notifications if there is motion or possibly even if sound, like if the baby cries

I really just don't know anything about these and I search some on Amazon and see a ton of them so I'm not sure which ones are the ones to avoid or which are good.

Anyone know if this is decent?

I'm open to suggestions too since I don't know anything about these. Looking to purchase from amazon.

Looks decent, but I'd prefer the 1080p over the 720p version.
Looking at that review, it looks like the app/camera actually has a "baby crying detection" mode built in lol. So looks like that is basically what I'm looking for.

Just watch out buying from Amazon, lot of Chinese rip offs. I don't know about all brands but I know it's a problem with the Hickvision ones. If price looks too good to be true it probably is.

I won't buy anything that isn't sold or fulfilled by Amazon so I don't think I have to worry about that in this case.

You need to watch out for "fulfilled by Amazon" too. A lot of companies send their fake crap to Amazon to ship for them. If it isn't sold by Amazon, the actual distributor is dubious.

Yeah but if it turns out to be crap, it's easy to return as long as it's fulfilled by amazon. Those Yi cameras are sold by the company that makes them and only them so I'm not to concerned.

I have that linked Yi camera. My parents bought it for me as a gift when I got my dog. I primarily use it to check on him while he's alone and I'm at work. It works well and the picture quality is perfectly acceptable for my needs. The motion detection works well (though I don't use it much anymore to send me notifications). I can't speak to the sound quality much as I leave the TV on for the little guy and the camera is right next to the speaker (so I always have it muted).

OP, have you decided which to buy?

Yeah I got the Yi Home Camera 2 (the 1080p one) and it's great. These cameras should make baby monitors useless now. My monitor was a piece of shit motorolla one for $180 with a tiny ass screen and not even hd camera, and it cuts out all the time. Battery life on the receiver was also terrible.

I've been looking into the cameras that you're talking about (Hikivision), and the issue isn't with Chinese knock-offs... since the cameras are from China to begin with. The problem is that if you buy a camera that isn't intended for the correct market, you may not be able to update the firmware. I think it's something like the ones intended for the Chinese market can't be updated, but the English ones can be updated. Usually, the product's page will note this somewhere on there.

I was going to go this route when our son was born, but ended up buying a cheap mini audio only system from woot. It's been working for 7 years now. We still use it when he goes to bed. I think we have $45 into it

Not trying to deter you from doing your thing, just that it's not always worth it. There's a lot of other baby things to buy.
