Last time I was at Hank Aaron BMW south of Atlanta, I test drove a 330i. Every time I test a car, I ask the sales person what he/she drives, and the guy at BMW told me he drives a Miata. Said that in terms of lateral acceleration it can't be beat. I must say it handles like a champ. As I get better and better with the stick, I will get more and more dangerous with the car...as if I'm not already.

For starters I would not drive a RWD car in the snow unless I knew what i was doing(I dont and you obviousely dont either)
Second I would not drive a small car like that in the snow(you can get killed in that easilly if you lose controll that thing is way way way too small)
Anyways i dont think you would want to expose you "nice car" to bad weather anyways, especialy if it has not been in it already.

Me and my 26 year old 914 would dispute that. To use the vernacular, a 'teener will run away and hide from just about anything when the road turns curvy. The 914 is kinda S.O.L. in the straights though. (10.5 second 0-60 time, less-than-impressive.) In all honesty though, a 'teener and a Miata would probably come out very close on a curvy road, a nice light little car can be a helluva lot of fun.

ZV <--Just waiting until the day he's able to put a 3.3 Turbo engine (260+ hp) into a 1,900 lb 914. :D

I'm not even going to get involved in the convertible vs. roadster discussion, but a good source of Miata information can be found at miata.net, and their forums are quite good as well.

If you check out their FAQ, i'm sure it will answer most of your questions. :)

Isn't a 914 practically just a VW Beetle in disguise?

It's ironic that a Miata thread was started today. Earlier I went down the Mazda dealership, prior to seeing this thread, and I drove a Miata LS. Maybe I'll start another Miata thread and post my experience. Amazing car. I had no idea how cool that little car is.

yes! i mean, most people look at it and think it's a girls car, but it drives and handles like nothing else! even the "manliest" and harriest of hardcore enthusiasts wouldn't doubt it's ability on the track. people supercharge and mod these things like crazy!! i've even heard they've swapped 5.0 mustang engines into the thing!

I was actually told by some of my friends that only gay people and old people drive Miata's, or even worse, gay old people.

After driving it, I agree with you. There is nothing girly about the Miata.

Actually you never were even close to owning ViperGTS. While he was being technical, you obviously don't know enough about your car to argue his position that it is a roadster. 99% of miatas not owned by track racers are owned because they are cute. Much like the V6 Mustang, and the Acura RSX.

BTW subframes and cross braces make a huge differences in the handling of a miata. Or at least that is what I felt.

Well considering how poorly a Miata handles in the rain I would not recomend taking it in the snow. On a dry surface they kick ass even stock.
