Anyone know anything about high index eyeglass lenses?

What are supposed to be good high index lenses?

I ended up getting Nikon 5s based on the Nikon name and the recommendation of the salesperson.

Not really an educated decision but I wasn't able to find much info.

high index lenses are good if you have a strong prescription.........I think they have a 1.67 refraction level, so they can come out really thin if you have a strong thick prescription........

also, if you have strong astigmatism, (+/- 3.00 and over), the high index will give less distortion.

I have heard Nikon are great..........they are a great brand name, and also cost a lot........am I correct?

I got two pairs one with clear lenses and the other with tinted lenses for outdoors. Both had Nikon 5 lens.

I think the total cost of lenses and frames was about $350 US (I bought then in Canada).

Seemed like a pretty good deal to me.

Hi-Index is worthwhile, definitely.
I have -7 prescription, and without hi-index, it's really big on the side.
I usually also get the edges rolled and polished so it's not sharp on the side.
Also recommended is anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating.
Getting new glasses next week with all the goodies.
Insurance of course only covers the basic stuff, so all that nice stuff is going to be extra.

My wife has high index (1.67) lenses also.
Her prescription is pretty bad , so she need the lightest lenses.
According to her it is worth it, compare to her old regular thick lenses.
We get hers from Sam's Club for $199.00.
That is for Rodenstock Frame and Lenses (special order from Germany).
Another good thing about the high index is, it makes your eyes look less buggy 🙂
