Anyone know anything about College unsubsidized loans?

So theres a bill monthly that i have to pay quaterly about $1k and instead of having my parents pay for it I was hoping to take out an unsubsidized loan. But i called the fianicial aid office and they said that I won't be able too unless my parents are denied the Parents PLUS Loan. I want to take out this loan by myself if possible instead of having my parents take it out.

Im not quite sure if that guy knew what he was talking about. Or is this the only way to get an unsubsidized

seeing what you guys have to say about this situation.

Bleh, why not just have your parents pay it?
At least they're offering now; you'll be kicking yourself when you're on your own~

Because my family isnt that wealthy....I rather have my parents have that extra couple thousand dollars then pay for my education like that.

Are we talking Unsub. Stafford Loans? If that's the case then your Fin. Aid person is smokin' crack.

My parents didn't take any loans out for my college education, weren't turned down for any loans for my college education, and I took out three or four unsubsidized Stafford loans.

why not have them take out the loan and you pay them back?
 
I got the Stafford Unsub. Loan and also was offered the plus loan. Didn't take the plus loan, but took the Stafford no problem, $5,500 a school year.

Interest starts building up the moment you get the money on the unsub though, arg.
