Anyone know anything about buying gold?

I'm interested in buying gold as an investment hedge.

Is buying U.S. Gold Eagle coins the best way to go?

What's the best broker to buy them from?

you could also buy a gold mutual fund (i own goldx myself). You won't have a perfect exposure to gold, but pretty close.

Or, if you are investing enough, you can probably buy gold futures directly (though that probably requires a LOT of capital).

Are you looking at owning a piece of paper that says you own them? or actually owning the gold and keeping it in a deposit box at the bank (or in a safe at home?).

I'd like to buy some gold too!

EDIT: Like three pure gold coins or something like that. Or if I had the money later on, a bar of GOLD!! That'd be soo cool to keep in a display, you could show your friends that yuo've gold a frickin bar of gold!!!

The American Eagle gold bullion coins are 91.67% gold, 3% silver, 5.33% copper. Bullion silver coins and platinum coins are also available.
"Business strikes" of gold, silver & platinum bullion coins are only available from certain bullion dealers, such as the ads found in the Wall Street Journal.
"Proof" strikes of gold, silver & platinum bullion coins are available direct from the U.S. Mint.
Gold bullion coins are:
$5.00, net .10 oz. pure gold. ($50 "face value" equals 1 oz. pure gold).
$10.00; net .25 oz. pure gold. ($40 "face value" equals 1 oz. pure gold).
$25.00; net .50 oz. pure gold ($50 "face value" equals 1 oz. pure gold).
$50.00; net 1 oz. pure gold.
Platinum:
$100.00; 1 oz. pure platinum.
$50.00; .50 oz. pure platinum.
$25.00; .25 oz. pure platinum.
$10.00; .10 oz. pure platinum.
Silver American Eagle bullion coin:
$1.00; 1 oz. pure silver.

If you are buying for gold content, don't buy the Proof coins as they cost much more but contain the same amount of gold as the uncirculated (business strike) coins.

The bigger the coin, the better the value. Smaller gold coins have a higher premium over the gold content. Try to buy 1 ounce Gold American Eagle coins if you can swing it. Don't buy the 1/10 ounce coins, as they cost a lot more than the gold content.

Tulving.com sells 1 ounce Gold American Eagles for about 4% over the spot gold price.
