A couple of guys at work have been "tricking" people into trying to eat chicken wings called flatliners, they are insanely hot wings and these guys kind of badger people into trying them for their own amusement, the people who try them end up gagging, choking and generally miserable for half an hour or so.

I have tried a taste of the sauce and it is very hot, but I had a wintergreen lifesaver in my mouth at the time and I think it may have countered the spiciness a bit.

So, that made me wonder if there may be some way to beat these guys at their own game.

If I could come up with something that would neutralize the spiciness, and get them to go "one for one" with me on these wings hilarity would ensue

First, I love spicy food, I eat the dried red peppers that are used in spicy Chinese dishes, I use lots of fish sauce at the Thai restaraunt I go to, I eat jalepenos and half the time they seem lame to me, so I am conditioned somewhat to spicy food.

Second, I believe the biggest effect of the sauce used on the flatliners is the burning feeling it gives you when you get it on your lips and skin around your mouth, I was thinking about using some chapstick or something and plugging my nostrils(discretely)

Third, I want to use some sort of buffer, for taste and feeling, maybe some altoids and anbesol?

Has anyone done anything like this before?

Milk, Milk is what will kill the hotness. I promise. Been there and have done that, however, there was no tee shirt being offered.

suck on ice for a solid hour beforehand, you probably won't taste much

To avoid irritation around your mouth, stick the whole wing in and pull the bones back out.

I am also considering "De-boning" the wings and simply swallowing the wing whole................

Having eaten a few flatliners in my time I'm gonna tell you now that the ring of fire is going to be in full ass flaming effect if you manage to get down even half of those wings. Those things are just ridiculous. I like to think I can handle a bit of heat but those are jsut too much. If you're really set on doing it eat them as fast as possible. Don't let the burn build up or it's all over.

Sugar works well in neutralizing the Capsaicin. You can use milk, sugar water, canned whipped cream. (the last 2 seem to be popular with judges who sample a lot of hot sauces)
Your taste buds will come back in a day or two if you overdose :D

Ah yes. One time I tried to top off 60 wings of varying heat and flavor with 5 of the hottest the restaurant had... I got through 2, felt a rumble in the stomach, did not enjoy the consequences.

Hmm, where would one go about finding these flatliners? I'm curious...

Just go to any restaurant known for its wings and ask for their hottest... they go by different names everywhere. There's no way to tell how they compare to other restaurants though.

If you don't let it touch your lips it won't be as bad. That's the most sensitive part.

Flatliners = weird but cool movie :p

Make sure you don't have cracked lips. If you want, gurgle some milk in your mouth and swallow before eating to offset some spicyness.
If you thought those are hot, wait til you try some Malaysian hotpots :D

you could also drive nail in to various parts of your body, but WHY.

Be your own person and tell these jerks that you are not going to jump through their stupid hoops simply because they goad you and others into attempting what is clearly painful. See if they will drive nails through their scrotum and into their desk because you goad them into doing it.

Stop being a girl. :) Get used to them. I'm on a completely different level of spiciness than most people. My one claim to fame. U might think flatliners are hot but that's water compared to the spices listed here. Right now, I'm going through a bottle of Blair's Megadeath. Two drops of it on most food would make you cry for mommy. Unfortunately, since i've had it for a while, i've built up a tolerance to it so now it takes several drops to make me feel it. The only reason I didn't get the sauces higher up on the list is cause a lot of them are like $50+ a bottle and they're additives, not sauces. the top two hot sauces top 200+ a bottle. Buy Megadeath or the Mad Dog sauces and put them on everything. If you don't die of ulcers, you'll become a better man and will laugh at those so-called "flatliners".

Hide a tack inside your shoe ahead of time. Then as your eating the wing, press your foot down against the tack. The pain from the tack should counter the pain from the wings.
